Update on Major WWE PLEs Future Following Mark Shapiro’s Comments About Need To Move Past Vince McMahon Created PLEs & Create New Ones
In a recent interview with The Main Event with Andrew Marchand podcast, TKO President and COO Mark Shapiro gave his thoughts about the need for WWE to take the torch and move past PLEs created by Vince McMahon and create new ones for the company like Wrestlepalooza.
“They’re open to new ideas. They never seem exhausted. They’re ready to take on a new shot, a new risk, a new opportunity. ‘Hey, Nick, let’s talk about launching a new event.’ Right now, a lot of our PLEs were created by Vince McMahon. We need to get in the business of taking that torch and moving past that, and Nick (Khan) and Triple H created Wrestlepalooza, which is the launch event for our new ESPN deal, which did incredibly well and may turn into a superfranchise. Not to mention from a merch standpoint, I don’t need to tell you, securing the I.P. rights and then selling merch at Wrestlepalooza, let’s just say it was a real winner…”
Fightful Select reported that one source spoken to within WWE stated that they believe Shapiro may have been referring to monthly PLEs and not the bigger major PLEs WWE runs annually.
This same source reportedly also clarified that the Saudi Arabian government has only paid to get WrestleMania to its country and not Wrestlepalooza.
It was reported that New Orleans and Indianapolis currently have deals with WWE to host more SumemrSlam and WrestleMania events in the future than what has been currently announced.
