As noted before, The Motor City Machine Guns (Chris Sabin & Alex Shelley) were confirmed to have been released from WWE this past Friday as part of a larger batch of talent releases that day.
Fightful Select reported that their sources within TNA stated that the company would welcome MCMG back if the opportunity came up but they currently expect that AEW will be the duo’s eventual landing spot.
Those spoken to within WWE stated that MCMG seemed like they knew “they would continue to do well and stay busy outside of WWE, and will continue to wrestle.”
It was reported that Sabin and Shelley also have a band called GRPPLNG that they will continue work on following their departures from WWE.
In regards to MCMG’s release from WWE, it was reported that those spoken to stated that while Sabin and Shelley appreciated their time in the company, their television usage had slowed in recent months and may have contributed to their departures. It was also reported that another sign that MCMG departures may have been approaching was the team not being scheduled to appear at recent WWE tapings.
In regards to a potential move to AEW, it was reported that AEW officials had previously made a push to sign the MCMG before they ended up going to WWE instead.
