Cody Rhodes Says He Pitched Eyepatch Gimmick for His Eye Injury But Triple H Turned It Down
As noted before, Cody Rhodes suffered an orbital bone injury during his match against Randy Orton for the Undisputed WWE Championship at WWE’s WrestleMania 42 Night 1 event earlier this month in Las Vegas, Nevada.
A recent episode of ESPN Sportscenter featured Rhodes as the guest. One of the topics discussed included Rhodes’ thoughts about how he had pitched to wear an eyepacth for his appearances on WWE shows after his eye injury and WWE CCO Paul “Triple H” Levesque turning down the idea.
“I thought, ‘I’m gonna go to TV, I’m gonna go to Monday Night Raw and Friday Night SmackDown, I’m gonna do an eyepatch thing.’ I thought that’d be cool. Wrestlers are always looking for something cool, let’s get a new action figure out of it. Eye patch Cody. Triple H told me absolutely not and there might be a shot on Unreal of me throwing that eye patch down backstage cause I had it, I was ready to go. But hey, it comes with the territory more than anything. I had no complaints. It’s just a little battle scar, that’s all.”

Jim Ross Comments on Sid Being “Overqualified” for WWE Hall of Fame & Legacy Wing Being a “Joke”
The late Sycho Sid, real name Sid Eudy, was recently inducted into WWE’s Hall of Fame as part of this year’s class of inductees. Sid was inducted into WWE’s Legacy Wing due to the company’s current policy for inducting wrestlers who have passed away.
A recent episode of the Grilling JR podcast featured co-host Jim Ross giving his thoughts about Sid’s induction into WWE’s Hall of Fame as a Legacy Wing member and Sid’s son Gunner feeling that the ceremony for his father was “disrespectful as hell.”
“If my daddy was going into the Hall of Fame, I would want them to have the biggest presentation that they could produce. Based on previous years’ criteria, by a variety of talents, Sid was overqualified to go into the Hall of Fame. [The Legacy Wing] is a joke. It’s just one way to give somebody a payday or some recognition, I understand that, but a guy who headlined WrestleMania a couple of times, a multi-time champion, he deserved and earned…was Sid a pain in the ass? Yeah, sometimes. No doubt about it. He was moody. He had a lot of pride, and some who worked with him closely may say that he had too much pride because he became a pain in the ass to work with, but does that mean he doesn’t deserve to be in the regular Hall of Fame? No. He should’ve been in the regular Hall of Fame. Sid’s legacy, whether he’s in the Hall of Fame of Legacy Wing, he’s never going to be forgotten.”
