Kevin Knight on AEW’s Locker Room Leader, Wanting To Wrestle Kenny Omega, & Advice Darby Allin Gave Him Early Into His Wrestling Career

Bodyslam.net held a recent interview with AEW TNT Champion Kevin Knight. One of the topics discussed included Knight’s thoughts about who are currently the locker room leaders in AEW.

“There’s multiple, I guess. People wear different hats. I would definitely say Jon Moxley is the number one head guy. Everybody, you know, turns ahead and listens to Mox whenever he has something to say because he doesn’t have much to say at all. So when he does, you know, you better speak up and listen, and then you have other guys like an Orange Cassidy or like a Roderick Strong, Mark Briscoe when he’s there. There’s a lot of different people that just keep the morale up and are always, always, always there. giving good advice, helping out the young guys. So those are the people I would say. Moxley, Orange Cassidy, Roderick Strong.”

Knight also gave his thoughts about Kenny Omega being his choice for someone he would like to have a match against in AEW and how Omega is the litmus test to see if you are the next best in the world in the ring.

“I would have to say Kenny Omega. Kenny Omega would be number one person that I haven’t mixed it up with that I’m like, that’s like the benchmark. That’s the litmus test, you know, to see if you’re the next best in the world because he set the standards so high just with his New Japan run and obviously with the things that he’s done in AEW, you know, the cleaner, that guy is like the standard, and if you could stand in the ring with him, get his approval, man, ain’t no stopping you. The world is yours.”

Knight also gave his thoughts about the valuable advice Darby Allin gave him early into his wrestling career. This interview was held prior to Knight’s scheduled match against Allin for the AEW World Championship at the May 6th AEW Dynamite and Collision three-hour show.

“I’m doing everything that I’ve always done, and the biggest thing that I’m doing is taking Darby Allin’s advice because when I was about three months into wrestling, I first met Darby because we came from the same school, the Buddy Wayne Academy, up in Seattle, Washington, and the first time I ever met him, he told me, ‘man, don’t waste time. Like, I know you’re early in your career, but the biggest thing I can tell you is don’t waste any time’, and I think I’ve just followed his advice throughout my career and made an impact everywhere I’ve been, and especially in AEW here in less than a year, a little over a year. I’m a two-time Trios champ, the current TNT champ, and now I’m going for the world title against Darby Allin. Again, the stars are aligning, and, you know, I’m just taking Darby’s advice. So I can only thank Darby for this opportunity, to be honest. So my training to answer your question going into this is just keep doing what I’m doing because obviously it’s been working. So I’m sticking to my vision and we’re going to keep it working, follow through with it tomorrow.”
