Tuesday’s episode of VICE TV’s Dark Side of the Ring series featured the infamous bloody and brutal Samoa Joe vs. Necro Butcher match from IWA Mid-South’s Something To Prove event in June of 2005.
This match had been long rumored to have taken place due to issues of Necro taking liberties with ROH students at a CHIKARA event at the time.
During the episode, Joe gave his thoughts about the real reason he took the match against Necro was simply just him wanting to be close to his wife, then girlfriend at the time, due to she lived close to Philadelphia where the show took place.
“For me personally, my wife, then girlfriend at the time, she lived close to Philly. I literally took the booking cause I was trying to get some ass. We were definitely different mindsets walking into this match. Until I walked into the arena and realized it was something different.”
