Continental Challenge Cup Tournament First Round Match
Claudio Castagnoli vs. Ace Austin

Castagnoli grounded Austin early on, using power to block the moves of the smaller man. Castagnoli hit a big body slam before sending Austin into the corner with an Irish whip, but Austin moved out of the way of an uppercut. Austin did a fireman’s carry into a Death Valley Driver after a brief exchange with Castagnoli, and Castagnoli bailed to the floor. Austin went for a pescado, but Castagnoli caught him and sent Austin crashing into the top of the guardrail. He then sent Austin into the opposite guardrail with an Irish whip and drove Austin into the apron. Austin did a handstand on the apron to dodge an attack from Castagnoli and hit a kick as they went to the ad break.

Castagnoli blocked a German suplex during the ad break and dumped Austin over the top rope to the floor. Austin made it back in before the 10-count, but was met with a series of stomps from Castagnoli, as the reacted with a mix of cheers and boos. Castagnoli hit a lariat but got a 2-count. Castagnoli was not frustrated and hit an elbow drop and locked on an arm submission as they came back from break on TNT. Castagnoli stopped an attempt to fight back by locking on a sleeper hold, and grounded Austin briefly. Austin tried to hit a back suplex, but Castagnoli hit a punch to the face of Austin and then hit a European uppercut in the corner for a 2-count.

Austin dodged a charge from Castagnoli and he turned into a dropkick from Austin that allowed him to get up. Austin blocked a lariat attempt, hit a kick, and then hit a Saito suplex. Ace Austin went for The Fold, but Castagnoli caught him and set him on the top turnbuckle. Austin fought him off and hit a hurricanrana off the middle rope before hitting a Fosbury flop and then a legdrop from the top rope for a 2-count once Castagnoli was coming back into the ring. Castagnoli caught Austin on another Fold attempt, but Austin slipped out of the pop-up uppercut attempt. Austin tried to hit a springboard kick from the middle rope, but Castagnoli hit a European uppercut.

Castagnoli went for the big swing, but Austin countered into a choke with his legs, but Castagnoli fought out. Castagnoli wheelbarrowed Austin and pulled him up into a powerbomb of sorts with sheer strength. Castagnoli then sent Austin into the ropes and hit a pop-up uppercut and scored the win.

Winner: Claudio Castagnoli via Pinfall.

A great hype video for Will Ospreay and Kenny Omega aired, and it showed Ospreay cutting a promo after his win on Mark Davis at AEW Grand Slam Mexico, covered in blood, insisting that he was ready for Omega. Excellent promo.

The Brawling Birds (Alex Windsor & Jamie Hayter) vs. Vertvixen & Viva Van

Vertvixen and Van tried to bring the fight to Hayter and Windsor immediately, but it did not go well, as Vertvixen was isolated and beat on with fast strikes and double team offence. Viva Van tagged in and hit a crossbody off the top rope onto Hayter before tagging back out to Vertvixen, but Hayter ran through a double clothesline attempt and hit a double lariat on both of her opponents. Windsor hit a back body drop on Vertvixen and threw Van out of the ring before tagging back out to Hayter. They hit a double headbutt on Vertvixen before hitting Two Birds and One Stone for the pinfall victory.

Winner: The Brawling Birds via Pinfall.

Divine Dominion’s music hit after the match, but Megan Bayne and Lena Kross came through the crowd to attack, leaving the Brawling Birds laying outside the ring.

Continental Challenge Cup Tournament First Round Match
Orange Cassidy vs. Matt Sydal

Orange Cassidy came out to Jane as his theme song again here! Excellent news. Cassidy and Sydal started exchanging holds as Nigel McGuinness noted that this the first time both of them have ever wrestled in AEW despite both being in the company for 6 years. Also, given how good both of them are, this match should be tons of fun. There were a lot of fake outs, but Cassidy went for a standing moonsault and missed. Sydal hit his own. Both then started exchanging attempts at an Irish whip and they kept countering until Sydal was able to hit a lariat.

Both men fought on the ropes, staggering each other, and then hitting forearms at the same time before crashing to the floor. Both men made it into the ring before exchanging pinfall attempts and then exchanging lariats before both smashed heads and crashed to the mat. Sydal went to the top rope but Cassidy rolled away across the ring. Sydal went to the other corner, but Cassidy rolled back the other way. Sydal decided to just go for a pinfall directly, which seemed to surprise Cassidy. Sydal then hit a knee drop to the knee and went to the top rope. Cassidy cut him off, but Sydal shoved him from the ropes. Sydal then hit a hurricanrana and a kick. Sydal hit a meteora for a 2-count.

Sydal went for a suplex but OC countered into a Stundog Millionaire. Sydal kicked out of a roll up, and then there was a series of counters before Cassidy hit a Michinoku driver for a 2 -count. Cassidy and Sydal exchanged a series of quite hold again, with Cassidy finally hitting a tope suicida and a DDT back in the ring for a 2-count. Cassidy went for the Orange Punch, but Sydal countered into a pinfall attempt, then a flying knee. Sydal then went for a shooting star press, but Cassidy moved. Sydal basically landed on his feet but walked into a Beach Break for the pinfall. Excellent match.

Winner: Orange Cassidy via Pinfall.

Backstage: Jon Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli

Jon Moxley and Claudio Castagnoli were backstage with Moxley congratulating Castagnoli on his win. Moxley said that he felt naked without his title, but that is what he does, putting it all on the line. Moxley said that he liked Jack Perry for his guys, but did not like who he was teaming with tonight, and tonight he and the other Death Riders were going to take out him and the Bang Bang Gang before Mox’s match with Perry next Wednesday.

The Rascalz (Zachary Wentz & Dezmond Xavier) vs. Steven Fuerte & Aaron Solo

The Rascalz wasted no time in this match taking out Fuerte with the Hot Fire Flame.

Winner: The Rascalz via Pinfall.

The Rascalz grabbed a mic and talked about how they belonged in AEW, and they are one of the best trios and tag teams. Myron Reed said that they can also hold their own in singles action, and Reed was ready to face Speedball Mike Bailey right now.

Myron Reed vs. “Speedball” Mike Bailey

Reed and Bailey had a quick exchange until they both threw kicks and caught each other’s feet. They gently let each other go and then shook hands to applause from the crowd. Bailey and Reed then did an exchange so fast that I can’t type fast enough to recap it, but there were a lot of kicks. Reed hit a sunset flip from the apron into the ring sending Bailey back to his feet and hitting a superkick, and then a dropkick that sent Bailey to the floor. Reed went for a dive, but as he was going Bailey leaped onto the apron, leaped over Reed onto the top rope, and hit a giant springboard moonsault to the floor.

Bailey hit a missile dropkick and then he and Reed, at least temporarily, slowed down. Bailey hit a sole butt and then went for a standing shooting star press, but Reed rolled out of the way. Reed went for a shotgun dropkick, but Bailey blocked it, went for a suplex, but Reed twisted into a Stundog Millionaire. Reed and Bailey went for crossbodies at the same time and crashed into each other. They both kicked up, then kicked each other in the head and went down. Reed and Bailey both rolled onto the apron. Reed and Bailey both hit forearms on the apron. Reed hit a big kick on Bailey and went for a Cutter, but Bailey dodged, hit a legsweep, and went for his moonsault double knees, but Reed moved. Reed went for his cutter over the top rope to the floor, but Bailey countered it and then hit a springboard corkscrew moonsault onto Reed. Absolutely incredible.

Bailey cut Reed off on the top rope before both men stood up and Bailey hit a Frankensteiner. Bailey went after him, but Reed countered into a cutter after a kick. Reed charged Bailey in the corner, but Bailey got the feet up and went for a shooting star press. Reed countered the shooting star press into a cutter and hit a gigantic top con giro over the corner onto Bailey on the floor. That was insane. Reed missed a 450 splash and Bailey countered it into a standing Spanish Fly when he charged for the pinfall.

Winner: “Speedball” Mike Bailey via Pinfall.

Backstage: The Dogs

The Dogs were backstage and David Finlay and Clark Connors talked about who won every time they faced the Bang Bang Gang. They made a lot of references to “who?” which sure seemed like a New Day reference. Finlay said that he was facing Jay White on Dynamite in the Continental Cup, and he was going to put him on the shelf permanently before advancing in the tournament.

Persephone & Hikaru Shida vs. Maya World & Hyan

Hyan and World fell victim to Shida and Persephone for a little bit in the opening part of this match, but World was able to counter a double team attempt with a headscissors on one and headlock takeover on the other at the same time. Persephone hit a shotgun dropkick on Hyan, and both Persephone and Shida countered World on a dive as they went to an ad break. During this opening portion of the match they announced Nigel McGuinness would be facing Katsuyori Shibata in the Continental Cup and Paul White pointed at Nigel on commentary with a big goofy smile. That was great.

Persephone hit a an STO on Hyan as they came back from break, but as Persephone was going for a crucifix bomb, Hyan countered into a armdrag. Maya World came in, hitting a combo tornado DDT and enziguri on both of her opponents. Hyan tagged back in and they hit a few double team moves on Shida. Hyan put Shida in a double chicken wing and World hit the ropes, but Persephone pulled World from the ring and then Persephone hit a missile dropkick on Hyan. Shida hit a falcon arrow on Hyan, but World made the save. Shida went for a running knee, but Hyan countered it again. She put Shida in a double chicken wing again, and World hit the ropes and hit a flatliner on the elevated Shida.

World hit a fallaway slam on Persephone and then a tope suicida and Hyan hit a huge spear on Shida for a 2-count. Hyan picked Shida up with the double chicken wing again, but Shida countered out and hit a tombstone of sorts that looked pretty ugly to score the pinfall.

Winner: Persephone & Hikaru Shida via Pinfall.

Backstage: “The Jet” Kevin Knight

Kevin Knight was backstage with Lexy Nair, getting hit thoughts on Darby Allin’s challenge. Knight said that he had to take things one at a time, wanting to give Chris Jericho a chance as his title first, and then after that, maybe he will give thought to Darby Allin’s challenge.

They aired a hype video for Konosuke Takeshita in the G1 Climax, announcing that he is leading the A-Block with 10 points, and how he is trying to become the 5th wrestler in the history of the G1 to win back to back tournaments. Kazuchika Okada was the last man to do that in 2021 and 2022.

Eight-Man Tag Team Match
C Bang Bang Gang (Juice Robinson & The Gunns (Austin & Colten Gunn)) & Jungle Jack Perry vs. Death Riders (Jon Moxley, PAC, Wheeler Yuta, & Daniel Garcia)

There was dueling “Guns up! Moxley!” chant right as the match started, so the fans were immediately into this. Moxley started the match with Austin Gunn, but it wasn’t long before Jack Perry tagged in wanting to face his opponent for next week. Moxley then slowly tagged out to Yuta, getting tons of heat. That was great. Robinson hit hip tosses on everyone before hitting jabs to both Garcia and PAC, and a crossbody onto both men. Robinson sent Yuta crashing to the floor but turned around into an eye poke from Moxley. Perry hit a dropkick on Moxley and Moxley bailed to the floor but had to be held back by the rest of the Death Riders.

Moxley quickly regrouped though and brought his team back onto the apron. Moxley isolated Juice Robinson and started hitting ten punches in the corner while also yanking on the hair to cause maximum pain. Yuta continued this beating as they came back from break, and he tagged in Garcia, who did more of the same. This continued for a few more minutes before Robinson managed to hit a leg lariat and he tagged out to Perry, who got in the ring with Moxley and they immediately started at a fast pace, with Perry hitting chops and a flying forearm. Moxley baited him into a corner charge and went for a Gotch Style piledriver, but Perry countered. Both men hit lariats and went down and Moxley tagged out. Austin Gunn tagged in and Austin Gunn hit the ropes so fast he made Myron Reed and Mike Bailey look slow. However, the offence only continued for so long before the Death Riders isolated Colten Gunn and attacked him in the corner.

Everyone was hitting big moves after this, ending with Perry hitting a giant moonsault off the top rope to the floor on Garcia, Moxley, and PAC. Colten Gunn hit a giant dropkick on Wheeler Yuta, but before the Gunns could hit 310 to Yuma on Yuta, Marina Shafir distracted the referee. The Dogs ran down and crotched Austin Gunn on the ring post while Yuta hit a low blow on Colten Gunn. Yuta and Garcia then laid out Gunn for the victory.

Winner: Death Riders via Pinfall.

Jack Perry came flying in with a knee to Yuta after the match to force him to flee from the ring and drive the Death Riders off before they could do more damage.

Backstage: “Speedball” Mike Bailey, Nick Wayne

Mike Bailey was backstage, talking about his loss to Kyle Fletcher, but his win against Myron Reed. Bailey said that he could feel that he was close, and since MJF was looking for opponents, he was going to face MJF at Dynamite next Wednesday for a spot in the Casino Gauntlet. Nick Wayne wanted to be in on that match too, and Bailey was more than happy to have Wayne in the match. Wayne said he wanted to be the youngest world champion of all time in AEW, and he was going to walk through Bailey to get it.

Video: Dory Funk Jr.

A wonderful tribute video aired for Dory Funk Jr., one of the greatest wrestlers to lace up his boots. This also included pictures of Adam Copeland training with Funk, and the fans cheered and chanted his name. This was lovely.

Backstage: The Hurt Syndicate, Shane Taylor Promotions

Shane Taylor Promotions was backstage with the Hurt Syndicate, and Taylor said that they wanted to acquire the services of The Hurt Syndicate, and if they worked together there would be a lot more money and violence in their future. Carlie Bravo told Lashley to count the money and Taylor indicated that he should stop talking, as it seemed like Bravo was mocking Lashley.

Backstage: Jungle Jack Perry, Bang Bang Gang

Shane Taylor Promotions was backstage with the Hurt Syndicate, and Taylor said that they wanted to acquire the services of The Hurt Syndicate, and if they worked together there would be a lot more money and violence in their future. Carlie Bravo told Lashley to count the money and Taylor indicated that he should stop talking, as it seemed like Bravo was mocking Lashley.

Continental Challenge Cup Tournament First Round Match
Jake Doyle vs. Eddie Kingston

Doyle went right after Kingston, beating on him throughout the early portion of the match, including Doyle hitting a brutal lariat on Kingston against the guardrail. Kingston responded with some punches and a headbutt to escape from Doyle’s grip and rolled back into the ring. Kingston hit a chop, and Doyle shrugged it off and hit a powerslam. Doyle raked the eyes of Kingston and hit some shoulder blocks in the corner before hitting a lariat for a 2-count.

Kingston fired up and hit some machine gun chops in the corner before going for an exploder suplex, but Doyle blocked it and hit a running powerslam for a 2-count. Kingston and Doyle exchanged hard strikes, and Kingston smiled as he hit palm strikes and took them before hitting repeated headbutts. It was during this that Tony Schiavone let us know that Eddie Kingston made so much noise when the Knicks one the NBA Championship that the police were called to his home, which is hilarious.

Kingston hit a flying shoulder block from the middle rope before hitting the exploder suplex he couldn’t hit earlier for a 2-count.

It was at this moment that my stream decided to cut off on MyAEW, so I was unable to see the end of the match. However, I do know Eddie Kingston won.

Winner: Eddie Kingston via Submission.
