As noted before, this past Tuesday’s NJPW Power Struggle 2026 event in Hiroshima, Japan featured Kenny Omega defeating Yota Tsuji and Boltin Oleg in a Three-way match. This match was notable for the stipulation of if Omega won, then he would officially challenge Tusji for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship at next year’s Wrestle Kingdom 21 event.
NJPW held a press conference on Wednesday in Japan to promote next year’s Wrestle Kingdom 21 event and featured Tsuji as one of the guests. One of the topics discussed included Tsuji’s thoughts about how his upcoming match against Omega could change the perception of NJPW’s current working relationship with AEW.
“I’ve said before that if things stay the way they are, we would be better of ending this relationship, but the point is, that’s if things stay the way they are. This match could change the relationship between NJPW and AEW entirely. If all the other NJPW wrestlers win their matches, but I lose, then that’s a loss for New Japan overall.”
In a recent interview with Tokyo Sports, Tsuji also gave his thoughts about how he had told Omega two years ago that he will beat him at the Tokyo Dome someday.
“Actually, two years ago at the Tokyo Game Show—where I’d been invited by an acquaintance—I ran into Kenny by chance. After saying hello, I felt I had to say something, so I told him, ‘Someday, I’m going to beat you at the Tokyo Dome.’ At the time, Kenny had a reaction like, ‘Huh?’
