WWE Diva AJ Lee is currently out with an injury.
According to a source, AJ has been working hurt but continued to work through it so she could finish her feud with Nikki Bella. There were plans several weeks ago to run a major injury angle to write her off TV but those plans were scrapped.
Due to the injury angle being held off, Natalya and Naomi were moved into the Divas title contender spot. Naomi was originally set to win the WWE Divas title but that spot now looks to be going to Natalya.
The recent hair spray finish ended up being the closest thing to the AJ injury departure storyline. Several sources within the company say emphatically that she will be back in 2015. She’s obviously in a weird position because they really can’t do anything to her, but it’s not like management would want to do anything big with her right now due to the CM Punk/UFC deal. WWE management also recognizes that even without any exposure on Total Divas, she is one of the most popular Divas on the current roster.
There has been negative talk about her due to her real-life marriage to CM Punk. One source brought up her acceptance speech (which wasn’t scripted that way) when she got the Diva of the Year award where it was taken as a “she is better than every woman on the roster except Paige” type deal. Of course, one can say she did nothing wrong (it’s all on CM Punk) but there are people skeptical of her future within WWE.
