CM Punk began his official MMA training camp with his new team, Roufusport, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on Monday, where he will be working under head coach Duke Roufus and wrestling coach Ben Askren, who was initially critical of Punk signing with the UFC.
Now that Punk is part of the same team as Askren, the One FC Welterweight star spoke about the situation in a new interview with FOX Sports. Below is an excerpt where Askren talks about being Punk’s wrestling coach and his belief that Punk will simply be just another one of the guys on the team.
“Yeah, it’s just a thing where he’ll be another student, more than anything else. He’ll show up to class, he’ll warm up, he’ll be a part of the team. [UFC lightweight champion] Anthony [Pettis] doesn’t get treated special. I don’t get treated special. I can’t be sure, but I don’t think [CM Punk] will get treated special.”
Additionally, another teammate of Punk, UFC Lightweight Champion Anthony Pettis, posted the following photo of Punk with the team on his official Instagram account.
