The Texas Tribune reports that Texas governor Greg Abbott has earmarked $2.7 million in taxpayer funds for WrestleMania 32. The site reports that Abbott approved the money to be awarded from the state’s Events Trust Fund, which pays for the state taxes collected during events for things such as such as hotel reservations and car rentals.
The outlet reports that the $2.7 million for WrestleMania is the second-biggest incentive since Abbott became governor, behind only the $19.6 million that was awarded for the 2015 Formula One United States Grand Prix in October.
Stadium Events Organizing Committee CFO Marty MacInnis told the site that WrestleMania will have an economic impact on the area similar to what an NFL Super Bowl would do, and that officials hope to draw a record crowd of over 90,0000 attendees.
