Over the weekend, John Cena caused some speculation that CM Punk may return to WWE. Cena posted a photo of Paul Newman in the film Slapshot, the exact same photo CM Punk uses as a Twitter profile photo. Fans got excited, because in the build up to AJ Styles signing with WWE, Cena posted an image of Styles on his Instagram.
On this morning’s Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that CM Punk is not returning. Punk has a multi-year deal with the UFC, and would need their permission to take a WWE match. Even if he did get that, there are other issues. Punk recently had back surgery, and is in no condition to return to the ring. Also, Punk and WWE physician Chris Amaan are in the middle of a lawsuit, which means that Punk is not on the best of terms with WWE.
