Luke Harper spoke with Rue Morgue about his role in the currently-filming action-horror film Mohawk. The film is directed by Ted Geoghegan (We Are Still Here). Some highlights are below:
On his character: “[He[ has a big heart of gold, even though he’s a tough guy at the same time. I feel like he’s the moral compass of Mohawk. His biggest crime is following, and not stepping up to stop the others from making these atrocities happen. It’s a fun role.”
On the film appealing to his history buff side: “I’ve always been into the Civil War and stuff like that. My dad took me to Gettysburg when I was a kid, and we toured the battlefields down there, went down into Virginia and up the coast a little bit.”
On the character having a broken leg: “When they pitched the role to me. they said, ‘Would you be OK with wearing a leg brace?’ And I said, ‘Yeah, that’s no problem, I have one on all the time!’ They were like, ‘What do you mean?’ and I said, ‘Oh, I just had surgery’—this was about six weeks ago—‘and I’m wearing this big brace right now.’ ‘Oh, that’s perfect!’ So when we came to shooting, I had the brace on, and Ted said, ‘OK, act like you’re hurt,’ and I was like, ‘Not a problem!’” [Laughs]
On the challenge of the film: “[It’s been] an incredible physical challenge. “This state park where we’ve been shooting is freaking beautiful, but running around and crossing cricks and running up hills and navigating logs and stuff like that has not been the best times for the leg [laughs]. But I’ve survived.”
