WWE has been ramping up pitches to several UK broadcasters lately for their long-planned UK show, PWInsider is reporting.
The show is reportedly being pitched as a UK-centric show with UK wrestlers, to air on a UK television network, so WWE hopes to make it more than just a WWE Network show. One of the networks that WWE has pitched to is ITV, which had planned to air a 10 episode World of Sport revival this year that was eventually canceled. The planned World of Sport series was one of the reasons that WWE sped up plans to launch their own UK show.
The pitched title for the UK show is reportedly “WWE King of the Ring,” PWInsider says. The actual King of the Ring tournament has only been used sporadically by WWE lately, with the last one in 2015, won by Bad News Barrett. After it stopped being a yearly event in 2002, they’ve only done the tournament in 2006, 2008, 2010 and 2015.
