Another Matt Riddle Indies Update
As noted before, Matt Riddle is currently expected to be heading to WWE very soon – possibly as early as NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn on August 18. Besides being removed from several upcoming indie events, Riddle confirmed that the rumors of him leaving for either NJPW or WWE were true during an interview last week with Sports Illustrated.
Riddle was defeated by Shane Strickland for the EVOLVE Championship at last Saturday’s EVOLVE 108 event. During that match, Riddle suffered a finger injury where he lost a small piece of the tip of his right pointer finger. He wrestled at EVOLVE 109 the next night, but has pulled out from more of his remaining indie bookings in order to recover.
Riddle’s final event in the indies is currently expected to be for Game Changer Wrestling’s Joey Janela’s Lost in New York event on August 17th in Queens, New York.
Kane Comments on His WWE Status Following His Mayoral Election Victory
As noted before, Glenn “Kane” Jacobs defeated Democratic opponent Linda Haney in last Thursday’s Knox County, TN mayoral election.
Following his electoral victory, Rolling Stone held an interview with Kane and one of the topics discussed involved if he will make a return to WWE during his term as the mayor of Knox County.
“WWE is always going to be part of me and hopefully I’ll always be part of it. I haven’t ruled out making special appearances every now and then. My main priority is being mayor, of course. [My role in the WWE] does bring a lot of attention to Knox County, so that’s cool. It’s just a matter of making sure everything I do — WWE or any other outside stuff — does not impact my role as mayor.”
