Arguably the greatest wrestling interviewer of all time, “Mean” Gene Okerlund has passed away at 76 years old. WWE confirmed the news today, saying, “WWE is saddened to learn that WWE Hall of Famer Gene Okerlund, the most recognizable interviewer in sports-entertainment history, has passed away at age 76.”
The cause of death is not public at this time.
Mean Gene worked in the WWF as their top interviewer (among other roles) from 1984-1993 before going to WCW from 1993-2001, then returning to WWE. He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2006 by Hulk Hogan.
