Harley Race has been recently diagnosed with lung cancer, according to Ric Flair and Race’s family.
The announcement was made by Ric Flair at a “Legends of the Ring” fan event held last night at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey. During the Q&A portion of the event, Flair revealed that Race is currently suffering from terminal lung cancer but gave no other details regarding Race’s health situation.
Following the event, Championship Wrestling from Hollywood’s executive producer Dave Marquez stated on Twitter that he contacted Race’s family and confirmed that Flair’s story of Race suffering from lung cancer is true but that it was not of the terminal type. Marquez also stated that Race’s family asked for the public to respect Race’s privacy and allow him the space needed to rest.
Dave Marquez’s statement:
I’ve just spoken to Harley Race’s family and it’s true, he has been diagnosed with Lung Cancer, but it’s not terminal. He’s being treated and supervised by his doctors.
He is still very active in the Harley Race Wrestling Academy and his promotion World League Wrestling.
Also, next weekend’s NWA Worlds Championship match at WLW’s “Night of Champions” is still on and previously I’ve already made plans to attend.
Harley and his family appreciates everyone’s concern and asks that the public to allow him his space to rest.
