This past Wednesday’s episodes of AEW Dynamite and WWE NXT saw both shows tie in overall viewership and AEW continuing their win streak over NXT in the key 18-49 demographic rating.
AEW Dynamite drew 778,000 viewers on TNT and a #11 ranking in 18-49 demographic while NXT drew 778,000 viewers on USA Network and a #21 ranking in 18-49 demographic.
Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that when factoring out the over-run, NXT had 771,000 viewers for the two hours it went head-to-head against AEW. It was also reported that AEW would have had a higher viewership total this week had it not been for the Spectrum cable blackout of TNT this past Wednesday night.
Meltzer also reported that AEW won six out of the eight quarter hours and that the viewership numbers ending as a tie was due to NXT having a very strong final two quarters and the continued benefits from its over-run. AEW also reportedly won every key demographic group with the exception of teenagers and the over 50 which went to NXT.
AEW Dynamite started off with around 870,000 viewers and their biggest gain of the night was the Jon Moxley vs. Alex Reynolds match and the Chris Jericho promo segment which took place in the first quarter hour. AEW’s biggest decline of the night was the ending of Sammy Guevara vs. Luchasaurus match and post-match brawl between Inner Circle and Jurassic Express which lost 87,000 viewers.
NXT started off with around 840,000 viewers and their biggest gain of the night was the Mia Yim vs. Dakota Kai match which gained 59,000 viewers. NXT’s biggest decline of the night was the ending of the NXT Cruiserweight Championship match and the Shayna Baszler video segment which lost 55,000 viewers. NXT’s over-run gained an additional 125,000 viewers to end the night.
In regards to Canadian viewership, the December 4th episode of NXT which aired on December 6th did not rank in the Top 10 sports programming for Friday night.
