As noted before, WWE announced on Wednesday that they would be issuing mass layoffs and furloughs for what they said was part of cost cutting measures in response to the coronavirus pandemic. At least nine producers were furloughed, meaning that their job loss should be temporary, though that’s not guaranteed.
WrestlingInc reported that WWE employees who were furloughed had received an information packet from the company explaining why they were furloughed, which was stated to be due to the “current level of work available as a result of COVID-19.” The packet also reportedly contained information regarding the status of their pay during this time period.
While the furloughs were made on April 15th, those affected will remain on WWE’s payroll until April 18th, which was stated by the company to be the official start of their furlough period. WWE officials are currently planning on a July 1st end date although it is subject to change depending on the coronavirus situation. The packet mentioned that the time period is expected to last less than six months.
WWE officials informed those affected that the company plans to retain all of their employees and will continue providing health insurance to those enrolled in their health plan during the furlough period. The company also informed those affected that they may be eligible for unemployment benefits and the Federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act.
