Oklahoma Reportedly Wants to Be One of First States to Allow Wrestling & MMA With Crowds

As noted before, Florida governor Ron DeSantis stated in a recent press conference that he is currently hopeful that live sports events with a limited amount of fans allowed will be possible in the state by June or July.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Oklahoma governor Kevin Stitt also has been discussing plans to re-open the state for wrestling, MMA and boxing events with live crowds in order to generate revenue from companies and fans traveling to the state.

The idea would be to get a head start over others states by having companies rush to run shows in the state.

Meltzer also stated that from a political perspective, the idea seems to be based on the belief that combat sports would generate less backlash from the mainstream press than had it been major sports leagues being re-opened with crowds first. The lack of unions in these sports is another big reason, since players unions in major sports are concerned over the health and safety of players.
