New Japan Pro Wrestling reportedly held a press conference this past Friday discussing several details regarding their upcoming NJPW Strong weekly television series and New Japan Cup USA tournament, according to the Wrestling Observer.
In regards to their upcoming NJPW Strong series, it was announced that this series will be similar to their former Lion’s Break Collision series and will feature talent from NJPW’s United States-based roster. The debut episode on August 7th will feature the first round of their upcoming New Japan Cup USA tournament. It was also announced that the Semi-finals of this tournament will take place on August 14th and the Finals will take place on August 21st. The winner of this tournament will earn a title shot for the IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship, which is currently held by Jon Moxley.
Besides details regarding their upcoming NJPW Strong television series and New Japan Cup USA tournament, the company also announced that Juice Robinson recently suffered a right leg injury and will be unable to compete for the foreseeable future. Robinson had been planned to work for the company’s U.S. branch for their upcoming NJPW Strong series.
In regards to Japan, the company announced that they will be holding a NEVER Openweight 6-Man Tag Team Championship tournament starting on August 6th to officially crown a new champion. The titles were declared vacant following EVIL’s departure from both Los Ingobernables de Japon and his tag team partners Shingo Takagi and BUSHI, who were the previous title holders.
