This past Sunday’s WWE Elimination Chamber 2021 event featured a SmackDown Elimination Chamber match to determine the number one contender to the Universal Championship.
Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that WWE officials ran into timing problems during SmackDown’s Elimination Chamber match.
Meltzer reported that following King Corbin’s entry into the match, an interval went to 7:36 instead of the usual five minutes. Meltzer reported that this was due to Corbin, Sami Zayn, Cesaro, and Daniel Bryan taking too long to get to the submission spot to eliminate Corbin prior to Kevin Owens’ entry.
WWE officials reportedly decided to speed up the final interval to four minutes but even with the shorter time, it took over twenty-three minutes for Jey Uso to enter as the last person in the match. Meltzer reported that it took around sixteen minutes for RAW’s WWE Championship Elimination Chamber to reach the same point for their match on the show using shorter four minute intervals.
