Earlier this week, people began to notice that Peacock was editing out controversial content from past WWE shows, including Roddy Piper wearing half black face at WrestleMania 6 and Vince McMahon saying the “n-word” in 2005.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, who cited “sources familiar with the situation,” Peacock “is reviewing all 17,000 hours of WWE content to ensure it aligns with Peacock’s standards and practices. WWE is also being made aware of any edits.”
Peacock has only uploaded past major WWE PPVs so far, and Raw episodes as far back as 2008 and SmackDown from 2019, so we don’t know yet how lenient or censorial they’ll be with past WWE content from the Attitude era, or past ECW content.
PWInsider also pointed out that WWE Network has also now edited out the Piper and McMahon moments from the shows there, matching the censored Peacock versions. The shows were previously left unedited.
So……@peacocktv is censoring and removing @wwenetwork content? pic.twitter.com/ZURaEMTiFZ
