Out of the 18 WWE wrestlers released on Thursday, at least five of them were “openly unvaccinated” for COVID-19, according to Fightful Select.
The New York Post reported Thursday that a WWE source told them that one of the reasons why Nia Jax was released was because she was not vaccinated. Andrew Zarian added that “it’s believed that possibly four individuals were released due to not being vaccinated.”
But Fightful says that their sources stressed to them that vaccination status was not the exclusive reason for the releases of the wrestlers who were unvaccinated. WWE’s on-the-record reason given for all of the releases was “budget cuts.”
Being unvaccinated would have prevented wrestlers from performing at certain venues depending on local ordinances, including all venues in New York City.
