Saturday’s New Japan Road event for New Japan Pro Wrestling in Chiba, Japan, featured the official announcement of the full block groups for this year’s G1 Climax 2023 tournament.
This year’s tournament will take place from July 15th to August 13th in Japan and the winner to earn a title shot for the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship at next year’s Wrestle Kingdom 18 event.
In regards to changes for this year’s tournament, it was announced that the official time limit for block matches will now be twenty minutes instead of the traditional thirty minutes. It was also announced that this year’s tourament will also feature the top two from each block advancing to a quarterfinals round.
