As noted before, Major League Wrestling’s television deal with REELZ Channel for their MLW Underground series expired this past April due to issues related to REELZ’s recent streaming deal with NBC’s Peacock. MLW and REELZ had been in talks for a potential second season of MLW Underground on the network.
PWInsider’s Mike Johnson reported that he had recently contacted REELZ for an update and was informed by REELZ officials that MLW Underground will not be returning to their network.
In an official statement given, REELZ stated:
“We evaluated wrestling on REELZ and decided that it was not a great fit with the current programming direction of the network and MLW agreed so there are no further conversations taking place.”
One MLW source spoken to reportedly stated that REELZ’s statement did “not reflect the reality of what happened” in regards to talks between the two companies but declined to explain their comments further.
Besides MLW’s show, REELZ had also aired several wrestling-related documentaries in recent times. Johnson reported that it is currently not known if this decision by REELZ also means the end of potential new wrestling documentaries produced for the network in the future.
