As noted before, WWE originally had plans for Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson to compete in a match against Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 40 that later turned into an expected tag team match of The Bloodline (The Rock & Reigns) vs. Seth Rollins & Cody Rhodes at Night 1 of WrestleMania 40 due to serious negative backlash from fans. WWE’s plans for a match between The Rock and Reigns at WrestleMania was part of the terms of The Rock’s deal with TKO Group to join their Board of Directors this past January.
Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that his sources stated that the current belief within WWE is that The Rock will wrestle at least one more match this year after WrestleMania 40.
Meltzer reported that WWE officials recently have pushed for The Rock to wrestle again this year and held talks with him regarding pushing his promised singles match against Roman Reigns to a later date.
Meltzer also reported that WWE officials are currently hopeful of The Rock’s match against Reigns taking place at their next event in Saudi Arabia this May. WWE officials reportedly currently have this next Saudi event scheduled to take place on May 25th.
In regards to The Rock working at WWE’s next Saudi event, Meltzer reported that those spoken to stated that there are a lot of variables in play and a variety of factors but this is something WWE officials would like to do if The Rock were to agree.
