AEW CEO Tony Khan held an abbrviated post-show media scrum following Saturday’s AEW All Out 2024 event at NOW Arena in Hoffman Estates, Illinois.
The reason for the shorter than usual media scrum was due to the Jacksonville Jaguars playing their opening game of the new NFL season on Sunday in Miami, Florida and Khan needing to fly out of the Chicago area shortly after AEW’s event in order to attend the game on time.
Some of the notable highlights included:
- On the topic of the pay-per-view buys for All Out 2024, Khan stated that the early numbers were significantly higher than last year’s event.
- On the topic of the status of AEW’s talks with Warner Bros Discovery for a new media rights deal, Khan stated “We’re still in very very close and exciting negotiations with Warner Brothers Discovery. It’s been going on throughout the summer that we’ve been having these conversations. It’s a very detailed package that we’re having discussions about. I said, “I think it’s safe to say, I believe AEW is here to stay on TNT and TBS.’ I think that’s true for a very long time and I believe it. I have not put pen to paper. I’m still working on things. It’s an exciting time, without getting too specific, but while giving everybody that anticipation of things to come. There are really exciting things to come for AEW.” When asked for a percentage of a new deal being announced next month, Khan responded stating “90 percent” and followed by saying “I’m 100% confident the ball is going in the end zone.“
- On the topic of AEW’s recent trademark for “AEW: Shockwave”, Khan stated “It would be safe to say that AEW is set to create a shockwave throughout all of professional wrestling. I think people are going to be talking about what they saw at AEW All Out, which was a huge business success for us, did really really well at the NOW Arena, big sell out show, and also really well on pay-per-view. I think it bodes well and creates anticipation for Dynamite. We’ll continue to send that shockwave through the world of professional wrestling here at AEW.“
- On the topic of the violence in certain spots during the show, Khan said that the company has gotten better and better at orchestrating them. Khan also stated that he did not want to go into too much detail but the best wrestlers and coaches had worked very hard on the matches on the show.
- On the topic of Britt Baker’s current absence from AEW programming, Khan stated that Baker was a big part of All In 2024 and to keep an eye on her. Khan also stated that this is the time of year when things would be happening at a “fast and furious” pace.
