As noted before, The Lucha Brothers’ Penta El Zero Miedo’s contract with AEW is currently set to expire between this August and September while Rey Fenix’s contract is currently set to expire this September. The Lucha Bros were believed to have recently signed official contracts with WWE but this was later debunked.
Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that his sources confirmed that the Lucha Bros have not signed any contracts with WWE and are still under contract with AEW.
In regards to Penta, Meltzer reported that Penta is still expected to be leaving AEW for WWE once his contract expires within the next two months. Meltzer reported that those spoken to stated that WWE had made a competitive offer to Penta that solidified his decision to leave.
Meltzer also reported that another main reason for Penta’s decision included him feeling frustrated and disrespected over him being pulled from AEW shows due to CMLL talents working those shows and CMLL’s partnership rules at the time that had forbidden AAA and CMLL talents from being booked and working on the same shows. Penta reportedly has also been unhappy over how he has been used in AEW for another reason behind his decision to leave.
In regards to Fenix, Meltzer reported that those spoken to stated that AEW officials recently added injury time to his contract. Meltzer reported that the amount of time added to Fenix’s contract is almost one year in length.
Meltzer reported that AEW CEO Tony Khan had given significant offers to both Penta and Fenix to persuade them to stay but neither were interested in signing a new deal.
