As noted before, This past Friday’s WWE SmackDown show in Nashville, Tennessee featured AJ Styles suffering an ankle injury resulting in his match against Carmelo Hayes being called off. Styles’ injury was initially believed to be a storyline injury and WWE’s update of Styles suffering a mid foot sprain was believed to just be a storyline update.
The Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer reported in Sunday’s Daily Update that his sources stated that Styles’ injury was actually legitimate. Meltzer reported that Styles will be undergoing an MRI on Monday to determine the severity of his injury.
Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp reported that his sources within WWE provided an update stating that the injury spot during Styles’ match against Carmelo Hayes at this past Friday’s SmackDown show where he landed on his feet was meant to be a work and Styles had sold it like one. Those spoken got reportedly stated that the spot where Styles landed on his knee was legit in terms of causing the injury.
