As noted before, Cedric Alexander, Sonya Deville, Blair Davenport, AOP (Akam & Rezar), and Paul Ellering were released by WWE on Friday. Deville’s release was revealed to be due to WWE not renewing her contract and her official release is expected to take place in a few weeks.
Fightful Select’s Sean Ross Sapp reported that his sources provided details regarding the reason for the talent releases.
In regards to AOP and Ellering, Sapp reported that those spoken to stated that the official reason for Akam and Rezar’s releases was due to WWE officials not having any long-term creative plans for them nor their manager Ellering following the end of Final Testament’s storyline feud with the Wyatt Sicks. Sapp reported that internally AOP and Ellering’s lack of television time alongside Karrion Kross was seen as a bad sign for them. Several of those spoken to stated that they believed AOP carried industry heat due to issues with their outside business dealings. This reportedly may have influenced WWE’s booking decisions for AOP in the company.
In regards to Deville, Sapp reported that Deville will officially become a free agent once her contract expires and will not need to wait the typical 90 days to work or sign with a company.
In regards to Alexander, Sapp reported that his sources confirmed that his departure was due to him being released and will enter free agency after his 90-day non-compete clause ends. Those within AEW reportedly believe that several members of the Hurt Syndicate may advocate for his signing to the company.
In regards to Davenport, Sapp reported that WWE officials had no creative direction or plans for her following her main roster call-up. Davenport reportedly is currently expected to generate interest from multiple promotions worldwide once she officially becomes a free agent.
Sapp reported that as of Friday night, WWE had not updated their internal roster lists to reflect the releases. Sapp reported that in previous cases, WWE usually took a few days before making official roster changes.
