As noted before, Saturday’s WWE Elimination Chamber 2025 event in Toronto, Ontario, Canada featured John Cena making a surprise heel turn and aligning himself with the “Final Boss” The Rock.
Fightful Select’s Sean Ross Sapp reported that his sources stated that the plans for Cena’s heel turn was largely kept a secret within WWE with only a few people being aware of it beforehand. Sapp reported that Cena’s turn came as a shock to many within the company when it happened at the event.
Sapp reported that both Cena and Rhodes had known that the plan was for them to face off against each other at WrestleMania 41 but it is currently not known if The Rock will also be wrestling at the event. Sapp also reported that WWE’s creative team had been operating under the assumption as if The Rock would not be wrestling at WrestleMania and most of the plans for him are given to staff and creative on a need-to-know basis.
In regards to Travis Scott’s involvement, Sapp reported that the official Elimination Chamber poster featuring Cena, The Rock, and Scott on it was stated to be intentional foreshadowing and Scott was planned to be part of the Cena heel turn angle as of this past Friday when the new poster was released.
In regards to WWE’s plans for the Cena heel turn angle going forward, Sapp reported that there are a few details on how long this angle had been firmly planned. Sapp reported that those spoken to stated that The Rock’s previous appearances at Bad Blood 2024 and the RAW Netflix premiere show might have been meant to be the set-up for the heel turn but this was something he has yet to confirm. Others spoken to reportedly stated that they believed The Rock’s intentions were intentionally kept vague in order to leave room to fit it into the future as necessary.
In a follow-up report, Sapp reported that his sources provided additional details regarding Scott getting involved with WWE this year. Those spoken to close to the situation reportedly stated that most within the company did not know that Scott would take part in the heel turn angle at that time. Those spoken to reportedly stated moves began to be made in mid-January to include Scott in a “major angle.”
Sapp also reported that those spoken to stated that Scott has been taking part in wrestling training and one source stating that he has been training at the school of a WWE Legend. WWE officials reportedly have held talks regarding potential plans to have Scott work matches in the foreseeable future. Sapp reported that it is currently not known when Scott stepping into the ring might happen.
