Swerve Strickland Comments on His Feud with Ricochet Being “What You’re Seeing Is Over Ten Years Of Animosity”
Instinct Culture’s Denise Salcedo held a recent interview with Swerve Strickland. One of the topics discussed included Strickland’s thoughts about his current feud with Ricochet.
“Honestly, what you’re seeing is over ten years of animosity between two guys. Truth be told, me and Trevor, Ricochet, haven’t always gotten along, and you’re seeing that play out. Now, you’re seeing also someone be pushed to the brink of snapping, someone who’s literally taken a lot of crap over the last couple years in his career, to finally finding his footing in a place where he honestly feels he belongs, and he’s still not good enough, he’s feeling, and he’s taking that out on me. I’m someone that’s kind of pushed past the expectations because Ricochet was always deemed the golden boy of our era in the 2010s and that era, and I was kind of just [a] floating fish until I found myself. So now, I found myself quicker than Ricochet found himself, but he also found himself because of me, so there’s a lot of dynamics being played here, and it’s just psychological warfare before we even get in the ring. If you’ve noticed, we’ve only been in the ring twice now since Dynamite, but there’s been psychological warfare for two months now, and it’s also something that people didn’t expect Ricochet to be on the microphone telling his story that way. So we’re bringing a lot of different elements and new elements to someone that you’ve seen for the past 10 years, but also seeing something new. Myself, you know me, I like the bear, I make it personal, I’m always gonna bring something new and something wild out of somebody, and I’m the vehicle of that for All Elite Wrestling. But I also make the show better in a way because of that. I’m like, ‘Okay, if you got here for some reason, you must be good. Now, it’s time for you to show it.”

Cope Comments on Not Fully Understanding the Death Riders Angle At First & Wanted to Try and Figure It Out Along with Audience
Sports Illustrated’s The Takedown on SI held a recent interview with Adam “Cope” Copeland. One of the topics discussed included Cope’s thoughts about him not having a clear grasp of the Death Riders storyline at first and wanted to figure that out with AEW fan base before figuring out where he would fit into the story himself.
“Well, for me, it was just, it was confusing at first. Like, I didn’t fully understand what was happening. So I wanted to try and figure that out along with the audience, I think, and then go ‘Alright, what can be the story here? The story can be you take them out, because it’s always the numbers that they have the advantage with. Okay, let’s do something about that. Let’s tell a story there.’ And more than anything, the beginning of the thing is, ‘Okay, you attacked all of my friends on television, right? Okay. So, yeah, I’m coming back. Time to step in and give this a shot.
Anything I’m involved in, I try to at least add some layers to it. And when putting the things together, going, ‘Okay, here’s the package for the match.’ You got to build in beats for that package to sum everything up, so if you watch that two minutes right before the match, you’re caught up. You got it, and know, ‘Alright, and now I’m looking forward to this thing.’ I think more than anything, that’s my mentality, is just trying to craft something or be a part of helping craft something where you get those beats, those tentpoles throughout that you can just insert in a package and get everybody caught up, before, you know, they watch the actual match. But still, that to me is what hooks me.”
