Backstage Update on WWE’s Current Plans for AAA Partnership & Uncertain Future for Many Talent Within AAA

As noted before, WWE announced this past April that they have acquired Lucha Libre AAA. Alberto El Patron and several other AAA talents are currently believed to have been recently signed to official contracts with WWE.

Fightful Select reported that their sources stated that many AAA talents are currently unsure about their status and future in the company as WWE strengthens its presence there. This feeling reportedly is something primarily from those working without full-time contracts with AAA.

It was reported that WWE has been sending agents to recent AAA tapings to observe operations and report back with Jeremy Borash playing a significant role in these efforts and talking to AAA talents.

One source within AAA reportedly stated that the shifting dynamic has already affected some key figures within the company and claimed that a few high-ranking individuals have been “knocked down a few pegs of power.”

In regards to Alberto El Patron’s future with AAA, one source spoken to reportedly stated that it is “hard to believe” the timing of El Patron defending his AAA Mega Championship against El Hijo del Vikingo in a match just one week prior to the NXT x AAA Worlds Collide event is merely a coincidence. Another source spoken to stated “Even if Del Rio sticks around, it’s almost a certainty that he’s dropping the title.” It was reported that Vikingo is currently planned to be a central figure in the WWE and AAA partnership moving forward.

It was also reported that AEW talent will no longer be appearing at AAA events and marks a formal end to their working relationship. While appearances by AEW talents had been infrequent, Jeff Jarrett was among the most recent AEW names to appear at AAA shows.

It was also reported that their sources confirmed that TNA talent will be part of the upcoming Worlds Collide event. WWE officials reportedly are currently planning for this upcoming event to feature stars from WWE, NXT AAA, and TNA and is being described as a “Forbidden Door” style special event.
