As noted before, Drew McIntyre stated in a recent interview with the Orlando Sentinel that he is still dealing with head-related issues caused by him being “banged up” after taking a rough table breaking spot at WWE’s Backlash 2025 event earlier this month in St. Louis, Missouri.
Saturday’s WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event show in Tampa, Florida featured Damian Priest defeating McIntyre in a Steel Cage match. This match was notable for Priest hitting a conchairto to McIntyre and walking out of the cage’s door to win the match.
PWInsider’s Mike Johnson reported that his sources stated that McIntyre will be taking an extended break from WWE to recover from his injuries and had finished his current dates with WWE following Saturday’s show.
Those spoken to reportedly confirmed that McIntyre has been “working hurt for some time”
Johnson reported that while there has been talk of McIntyre landing a potential big Hollywood role for some time, this abscense is not related to that and instead is more about him taking some personal time off.
Johnson reported that WWE officials currently do not have any immediate plans for McIntyre’s return in the future.
Fightful Select reported that their sources confirmed that McIntyre will be taking a break from WWE following Saturday’s show and the conchairto spot was done as WWE officials way of writing him off television.
One source spoken to reportedly stated that McIntyre’s time off was “contractual.”
