As noted before, Seth Rollins suffered a knee injury during his match against LA Knight at this past Saturday’s WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event show in Atlanta, Georgia.
Rollins’ injury situation has recently led to conflicting reports over it being a legit or storyline injury. The Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer previously reported that one trusted source within WWE claimed that Rollins’ injury is not legit and something WWE had plans in place to do this past Thursday.
Post Wrestling’s John Pollock reported that he had been informed by his sources 48 hours ahead of WWE’s SNME show that WWE officials had plans for Rollins to be involved in an injury angle to put him on crutches in the lead up to this August’s SummerSlam 2025 event. Pollock also speculated that the reason for the potential storyline injury was WWE officials way to keep secret of their plans for Rollins’ Money in the Bank cash-in at SummerSlam.
“Here is what I have been told, and I will just share what I was told. I was told two days before this to look out for an injury angle with Seth Rollins that would — it was even described to me, it would be an injury angle that gets him on crutches going into SummerSlam, something to that effect.
So I was told this two days before the match happened. So the only possibilities here, if I had been told this the day after this had played, and someone is telling me this isn’t real, I would certainly need more information than that. The fact is, I was told this in advance. So this person is not psychic. They are not Nostradamus. There are only two options here. Is that this was a work, or they were planning a work, and he really did get hurt. And I don’t think that’s the case either.
So I’m very confident that this is a storyline and this is going to play itself out. This part is just me speculating here, is that for Seth Rollins, his is probably the most like celebrated cash-in that WWE promotes with the big heist of the century, like he can’t just do a normal cash-in, they have to do something that is going to shock people. And certainly, this is a way. And believe me, I have heard they are going to go to great lengths on this one. I think they’re gonna try very hard to make everyone believe he’s out.
I can’t speak for what they’re telling other people, or how many people know. I’m just conveying what I was told by a very, very good source. It’s not even a case of like trust or not trust. This happened as it was described to me 48 hours before the angle was executed. This is not a case of, well, maybe this will happen, maybe this won’t. We see it happened, it happened as it was described to me.”
PWInsider’s Mike Johnson reported that his sources stated that Rollins injury is legitimate and not a work or storyline one. Johnson also bashed any reports and others claiming otherwise for being “completely disrespectful to Rollins at this point.”
Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez reported in a recent episode of the Wrestling Observer Radio that their sources stated that Rollins injury at SNME is not legitimate and provided additional details.
Meltzer reported that while he can not go into details about what he was told, one source spoken to did not deny that Pollock was mistaken when he reported about Rollins’ injury being a work.
Alvarez reported that those spoken to stated that Rollins did suffer an injury but it was not at WWE’s SNME show and instead at a prior show. Alvarez reported Rollins’ “injury” spot at this past Saturday’s WWE SNME show was meant to be a cover for an undisclosed injury he is currently dealing with. Those spoken to reportedly stated that Rollins is currently expected to only be out of action for a little while. Alvarez also reported that WWE will very likely announce a more serious injury and lengthy recovery time of around 9 months or so as a way to cover “every base” and keep secret their surprise cash-in plans for him.
Meltzer responded stating that Alvarez’s explanation of the situation is something he has yet to confirm from his own sources but it makes the most sense since it lines up with what one source spoken to stated about how Rollins’ cash-in will come out of nowhere.
