A recent episode of the Impaulsive podcast featured Drew McIntyre as the guest. One of the topics discussed included McIntyre’s thoughts about the negative perception of wrestlers being dumb and how that’s changed over the years and his belief that “85% of our guys” don’t look like they should be in WWE.
“For me, let me get into the environments where I can show that we’re not a bunch of morons, we’re actually college-educated and can string sentences together. We know how to build a brand. The more you put me in those situations, especially with WWE….it drives me nuts when I see some of our guys on some of these huge public platforms, huge TV shows. These days, no offense, but 85% of our guys don’t look like they should be in WWE or (on) Netflix. My buddies will contact me, ‘I just turned on the wrestling to see what you are up to. Logan Paul is in there and he’s killing it. Roman Reigns, what a star when he comes on the screen. Comes off the screen, and he’s a giant. These other guys look like they should be serving me my fast food at McDonald’s. When it looks like I could kick their ass, it takes me out of it.’ I’m like, [Mockingly] ‘They’re good at wrestling. Eventually, you’ll connect with them.’ ‘I’m not going to watch it long enough. I’m going to change the channel.’ Guys, get in the freakin gym or get something that grabs their attention.”
McIntyre also gave his thoughts about outsiders coming into wrestling and his belief that Travis Scott screwed up the main event at this past April’s WrestleMania 41 event.
Logan Paul – “I see [Jelly Roll] supposedly training. Supposedly, he’s been training.”
Drew McIntyre – “That’s the rumor. I’m not getting feedback, positive or negative, but apparently, you just do it for a couple of weeks, and magically, you’re good at it. We have anomalies. Yourself. I have to put you over, how quickly you took to this. Clearly, you’re a natural athlete. The Kurt Angles of the world, Ronda (Rousey), obviously, when she came in. Yourself. Jelly Roll, with that major athletic background that I’m always hearing about as a kid and all the sports he played. I don’t know, dominoes in jail, I assume?”
Paul – “That’s my issue with him. I came in as a lifelong athlete, and now that I do this, I find it a little insulting that a celebrity thinks they can come into the business and get the green room and fly on the jet.”
McIntyre – “Do a six-minute run-in at WrestleMania and screw up our damn main event. Travis Scott. Piece of shit.”
Paul – “I’m sick of the outsiders. No disrespect to Jelly Roll outside of WWE, but in WWE, I fully intend to disrespect him a lot.”
McIntyre also gave his thoughts about his issues of not seeing the benefit if Seth Rollins’ knee injury at WWE’s Saturday Night’s Main Event show earlier this month is just a storyline injury.
“I want him to be okay. He’s a professional rival, not a personal rival. I just don’t see the benefit if it’s a storyline. It’s the Money in the Bank briefcase, it’s going to be a surprise anyways. ‘Haha, I threw a match and did this.’ I just don’t see it. Maybe there is more to it if it becomes a story and I’m not seeing the bigger picture. I just hope it’s okay. It’d be a hell of a surprise, I just can’t see it. At the same time, I don’t have to be able to see it if there is a bigger plan. Our fans always try to figure out things. ‘What’s the finish.’ You see movies, just give it a second. There might not be a finish, we might still be workshopping to get there. Everyone, relax, and see how the story plays out because half the time we’re figuring out how it plays out.”
