Mercedes Mone Comments on Tonga Loa Got Her In Touch with Rocky Romero & NJPW
A recent episode of the Marking Out with MVP and Dwayne Swayze podcast featured Mercedes Mone. One of the topics discussed included Mone giving her thoughts about former NJPW and current WWE talent Tonga Loa being the person who got her in touch with Rocky Romero and New Japan Pro Wrestling for a deal with the company.
“When I got let go, I was like, ‘Oh my Gosh, I don’t know who I am. Who am I?’ I went back to the kid (in me) and was like, ‘Your dream has always been Japan. You always wanted to wrestle in Japan. Go chase your dreams and your goals that you haven’t gotten to achieve.’ I remember being at Mojo’s wedding and I ran into T [Tonga Loa]. We just talked wrestling because he was in New Japan at the time. I’m like, ‘I always wanted to go to New Japan.’ He’s like, ‘Let me get you in contact with Rocky (Romero).’ I messaged Rocky right away, ‘Hey, I’m really interested in joining New Japan.’ He’s like, ‘Shit. Okay. Absolutely. Let’s get it going.’ Just from that text message, two months later, I signed a contract with New Japan.”

Silva stated “I think Bound For Glory is a great stake in the sand in terms of us getting everything together as we look to the 2026 year and season. And so, I think August will be quiet. It usually is in the media, in the media deal space, but hopefully we’ll work through a few things, move the ball forward a little bit in August, and then I think in September and October as we get to Bound For Glory, that would absolutely be the goal to try and get it done by then. Or certainly, if it’s not done, have it agreed to.”
