Willow Nightingale Comments on Her Feeling “It’s About Time” for a Women’s Blood & Guts Match to Happen in AEW
Blavity held a recent interview with Willow Nightingale. One of the topics discussed included Nightingale’s thoughts about her belief that it is about time for a Women’s Blood & Guts match to happen in AEW.
“To see how the division has evolved from those early days to hold onto all of that wonderful, aesthetically pleasing [part of being] women’s wrestlers, but still kick a– in a bloody, gory mix of everything too, I think we’re really trying to push and show that. A lot of times, people will say our women’s division is just as good as our men’s division, and I feel that should be standard everywhere, all over the place. But I feel like we have our own unique identity, and I really do think a Blood And Guts type match is a part of that. I think we love bearing that. I think we love the viscerality of that, so it’s about time if something like that does happen.”
AEW News & Notes
AEW and Ring of Honor talent Matt Taven announced on Instagram that he was recently involved in the filming of an upcoming new movie for Lifetime.
Riot Cabaret Pro Wrestling recently announced that Thunder Rosa has been pulled from their upcoming Someone’s Knocking at the Door event on August 22nd in London, England due to her dealing with a personal matter at home.
AEW recently released two new Hidden Classics videos to their official YouTube channel. The first new video was a ROH World Championship match of Bryan Danielson vs Takeshi Morishima (c) from ROH Man Up. The second new video was a Trios match of Jurassic Express (Jungle Boy, Luchasaurus, & Marko Stunt) vs Max Caster, Serpentico, & Luther from the June 23, 2020 episode of AEW Dark.
AEW also recently released one new video to their Ring of Honor channel on YouTube. This new video was a ROH World Championship match of Konosuke Takeshita vs. Bandido (c) from ROH Supercard of Honor 2025.
Kyle Fletcher recently reflected on Twitter about Konosuke Takeshita winning this year’s NJPW G1 Climax tournament. Fletcher stated “I cried tears of joy 😭 that photo of us next to each other with the TNT & IWGP titles gonna hit like CRACK“
In a recent interview with the Undisputed, Matt Jackson gave his thoughts about what it has meant for him to be a part of so many of Hangman Adam Page’s big moments in AEW including his AEW World Championship victory at this past July’s All In Texas event. Jackson stated “It’s not lost on me how cool it has been to be part of so many of his big moments. Being involved in the main event also gave me the privilege to prop myself up on a guardrail and watch the finish. I covered my smiling mouth with my hand. So proud.“
In a recent interview with Big Gold Belt Media, Swerve Strickland gave his thoughts about his recent sneaker collaboration with Reebok and how everybody behind the scenes in AEW from top to bottom have stepped up a lot over the last year. Strickland stated “Dude that that was that wasn’t me at all. That was just an AEW thing like, I really feel like over the last year, All Elite Wrestling, the marketing department, the social team like everything has just stepped up so much tenfold not just not just in the ring, not just the product you see on TV, not just like the stories and the people, like the talent. I feel like everybody behind the scenes from top to bottom, like the camera work, the production, like everybody stepped up so much. Like the last collab was the Young Bucks, they had the pumps and everything. They were like, okay, how do we take it up another notch? They were like, we’re gonna use Swerve. We’re gonna use you and we’re gonna link with AI (Allen Iverson). The answers was already like a thing. They actually let me pick one.” (Transcript h/t: Figthful.com)
In a recent interview with Contralona, Thunder Rosa gave her thoughts about the growth of AEW’s Women’s division since 2019. Rosa stated “Well, they are giving opportunities to women who haven’t had the chance to be on television consistently. One of them is Queen Aminata, who has been on every Wednesday, which has helped her popularity a lot. We’re talking about Skye Blue coming back, Julia (Hart) is there, Thekla, Taynara (Tay Conti), there’s a variety in the women’s division, and they have the chance to be on TV. They have the chance to try something new and show what they’ve been missing all this time because some of them were injured or took time off for personal reasons. I think it’s growing; it’s completely different from what it was six years ago, and we’re all growing together, and I’m very proud of the things they’ve been able to achieve and are achieving right now.” Rosa also gave her thoughts about her not wanting to change anything about AEW’s Women’s division due to her concerns that it could hinder the division’s growth and she wouldn’t be the performer she is today. Rosa stated “I don’t know, it’s a question with many layers, very difficult to answer. I believe that, honestly, in my experience, I wouldn’t be the person I am if things were different.” (Transcript h/t: Fightful.com)
