Adam Copeland Comments on Doing “Greatest Hits with Christian Cage Would Have Gotten Old Quickly”

The Score held a recent interview with Adam Copeland. One of the topics discussed included Copeland’s thoughts about his recent reunion with Christian Cage as a tag team in AEW and why they did not want to just do a “greatest hits” tour in order to not lose Cage’s current character.

“That’s the most fun part, to start writing a new chapter, but also have it be a different chapter. We’re not just coming back and running the greatest hits. We’re doing two different characters now and maintaining that going into this thing, which makes for this unlikely Statler and Waldorf from the Muppets, ‘Can they get along?’ That’s a really fun dynamic. That is what I think is making it different. Eventually, if you come back and do the greatest hits, that might get old fairly quickly. This is a new version of our team and it’s a version that never existed before. Christian found his lane, his pocket. To lose that to do this team, that would have sucked. We were able to figure out how to do this, to sit down, and how to write this so that didn’t get lost. Now we have this dynamic of, it’s up to me to make him likable and understand that you have to accept him for all of his dickheadishness.

It was key that he came into it like that, still without anything likable about him. The only thing that makes him likable is I’m saying, ‘Hey, we just have to accept him for this thing that he is.’ It’s really fun and it makes it feel fresh. For both of us, too, because as a performer, eventually you come back and do the same greatest hits, and okay, it’s probably going to get old for us too.”

Backstage Update on Plans for New Group for Mercedes Mone

As noted before, AEW had been working on plans earlier this year for a potential new faction to be led by current TBS Champion Mercedes Mone that would have included The Renegade Twins (Robyn & Charlette Renegade).

Fightful Select reported that their sources stated that Mone has often pushed to work with The Renegades and at a few points over recent months, these plans were close to coming to fruition.

It was reported that sources within AEW spoken to stated that all parties involved seem keen on it happening. It was also reported that the Renegade Twins had similar gear made to match Mone months ago.

Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite September To Remember show featured Robyn Renegade competing in a singles match against Riho that was notable for Mone being on guest commentary and for Robyn briefly helping Mone during Mone’s post-match attack on Riho.

Kyle Fletcher Comments on “I Would Not Be Where I Am Today Without Mark Davis”

Forbes held a recent interview with Kyle Fletcher. One of the topics discussed included Fletcher’s thoughts about his belief that he would not be where he is today in terms of his wrestling career success without Mark Davis.

“I was 18 years old when we started teaming. I didn’t know who I was as a person yet, let alone a wrestler, so having my best friend there with me for all that stuff, it was so helpful in many ways. I’m not sure if I would have had the same success that I did by myself at that time, and without a doubt, I would not be where I am today without him. He’s meant so much to me. And then there are all the injuries he’s suffered. As a friend, seeing it is very hard. It’s difficult because I want the success that I’ve had for him. I care so deeply about him, so I want him to experience that. But from speaking to him, he kind of sees my successes as his successes in a way which is really cool, which makes me feel good about it, that I can almost do this thing for both of us. That’s not to say he won’t come back and absolutely kill it when he’s back from his injuries. It’s cool, though, that I can take a part of him with me into everything I do. I wouldn’t be the wrestler I am today without him, so hopefully that can show as well.”
