AEW News & Notes
Wednesday’s AEW Collision taping at Daily’s Place in Jacksonville, Florida featured a controversial incident involving ex-Try Guy and social media personality Ned Fulmer making his official in-ring wrestling debut. Fulmer teamed up with Spanish Announce Project (Angelico & Serpentico) in a Trios dark match against The Frat House (Griff Garrison, Cole Karter, & Jacked Jameson). Outside of wrestling, Fulmer is best known for his removal from The Try Guys group after it was exposed that he had cheated on his wife Ariel with another company employee. This scandal generated additional online backlash and hypocrisy over how much Fulmer had made loving his wife as part of his public persona. Fulmer recently launched a new podcast called “Rock Bottom with Ned Fulmer” that featured his ex-wife Ariel as the guest and them addressing his controversial affair.
This past Monday’s NFL game of Kansas City Chiefs vs. Jacksonville Jaguars in Jacksonville, Florida featured Harley Cameron, Orange Cassidy, Bandido, Thekla, Powerhouse Hobbs, Serpentico, and Swerve Strickland among those in attendance.
Indie game developer DarkBear Studios announced that Adam Cole is among the cast of voice actors for their recently released Curiosity game on PC’s Steam and Steam Deck platforms.
AEW recently released one new Hidden Classic video to their official YouTube channel. This new video was a ROH World Championship “Friday The 13th Massacre” No Disqualification match of PCO vs. RUSH (c) from ROH Final Battle 2019.
AEW music producer Mikey Rukus recently announced on Twitter that he currently has plans to remaster all of the entrance themes he created from 2019 to 2021 in AEW. Rukus stated “I think I’m gonna go back and remaster all of the AEW themes I made between 2019 and 2021. My ears are totally different now.“
In a recent interview with News4JAX, Harley Cameron gave her thoughts about how she balances the physical side of the world of professional wrestling. Cameron stated “I mean, a lot of caffeine. I will say that, you know? It’s a lot of caffeine in the morning. No, I think that it’s a lot of dedication. So a lot of training, a lot of hard work goes into wrestling and what we do. But, when you’re doing what you love, you put the effort in. So it comes easily when it’s something you’re enjoying doing.” (Transcript h/t: Fightful.com)
As noted before, TNA Hall of Famer and former TNA Head of Talent Relations Gail Kim was involved in an online incident this past September that started with Kim making disparaging comments about deathmatch wrestling. This then evolved into her making disparaging comments about Riho’s looks and then evolved into her making negative comments about AEW and its fans after online backlash she received from Kenny Omega and others. In a recent interview with the Massive Heat podcast, Kim gave her thoughts about Omega’s recent comments about “Another day and another ‘legend’ doing the splits on it for the yearly TKO gift basket” towards her. Kim stated “I woke up and I was kind of under the weather, that’s why I was so active on Twitter. I saw the first comment was from Kenny. I don’t follow him, it was on ‘For You.’ I was like, ‘Is he talking about me?’ I tweeted him back right away and was like, ‘Don’t beat around the bush. If you’re trying to say something, say it.’ He didn’t even at me. If you’re an executive of another company, you’re setting the tone. That’s why all the AEW fans felt like it was okay to come to after me. If he didn’t encourage that behavior, I think they wouldn’t be as aggressive as they are. You have to set an example. When I was part of management, I was very careful about what I tweeted and how I represented the company and what kind of example I was setting for the talent. You have to think about those things when you’re in that position.” (Transcript h/t: Fightful.com)
In a recent interview with the Dirt Sheet Radio podcast, AEW CEO Tony Khan gave his thoughts about who he would cast from AEW to be DC superheros and villains. Khan stated “It’s a great question because I think if you had to cast those roles, I think Jon Moxley, Batman. Jon Moxley, Batman, the blue collar hero is very different than Bruce Wayne, the white collar hero. But still, these guys, they work so hard. They have a different approach. Sometimes their methods could be questioned, but I think they’re both so consistent and they’re both the all-around top people in their profession. So Batman and Jon Moxley I would think is a great comparison. For Wonder Woman, certainly Timeless Toni Storm is somebody that would be very consistent with that. Actually I took Timeless Toni Storm along with a group of AEW wrestlers to do a shoot with the actors from Superman, and Timeless Toni Storm and Lois Lane, fittingly enough, had a great scene together and Rachel Brosnahan was really cool. Rachel Brosnahan and Timeless Toni Storm shot a video together. For Superman boy, that’s a hard one to pick and I could think of many people that would fit the bill. Certainly the AEW World Champion, the top of the profession right now is Hangman Adam Page. So I think you would give him that red cape, but, certainly over AEW’s history, a lot of people have been the great champion, including Samoa Joe, and Hangman Page versus Samoa Joe is coming up very soon at WrestleDream. They’ll be fighting for the world championship and that metaphorical Superman red cape that has also been held by Kenny Omega, one of the top people in the profession, and a lot of other top people. Somebody more akin to maybe Lex Luthor, who also shared a screen with Nicholas Holt when we did that DC shoot is MJF, who’s one of the top villains and a schemer, a rich jerk, a lot like Lex Luthor, a manipulative person, a lot like Lex Luthor. So a lot of similarities there, I think. Darby Allin is somebody who also flies through the air, does crazy things. Will Ospreay, one of the great heroes in a W who were excited to get back from injury, uh, who is like a comic book hero himself and a lot of great names that would fit this bill for sure.” (Transcript h/t: Fightful.com)
In a recent interview with TJ Sports, Andrade El Idolo gave his thoughts about his recent return to The Crash following his recent return to AEW and how he has left most companies on good terms throughout his wrestling career. Andrade stated “Tijuana is an important place to me. Since the era of Rey Mysterio, Hijo del Santo, La Parka, Super Parka (Volador), I remember seeing them in magazines. Today, I’m headlining big shows coming back here. As you say, when I left WWE (in 2021), my first appearance was here in Tijuana. I’m very grateful to The Crash for giving me the opportunity. My advice to the younger stars is to never speak badly about the companies. I’ve always left most companies on good terms. I left WWE on good terms, AEW on good terms, The Crash on good terms, CMLL on good terms, and AAA on good terms. Tomorrow we may return, so I tell all wrestlers not to speak ill of the companies, because they will always be there. Wrestlers come and go, we get hurt, we die, but wrestling goes on. I was young and occasionally spoke about companies, but I have always respected all of them, from AAA, The Crash, CMLL, which was my home for a long time, to AEW, WWE, and NJPW. I have never had the opportunity to wrestle in NOAH, but I respect all companies. The Crash allowed me to have my first match (after leaving WWE), and I am grateful to Tijuana, its people, and all the wrestlers who have welcomed me. Once again, thank you very much, The Crash. I will represent this championship (The Crash World Heavyweight Championship).” (Transcript h/t: Figthful.com)
