Following the match, Takeshita was handed the IWGP World Heavyweight title and gave a speech talking about how he knows a lot of people, both fans and wrestlers, are upset that he is the new champion and challenged anyone to step up to him. This led to Hirooki Goto coming out and confronted Takeshita challenging him to a match. Takeshita first asked where the young talent was and then accepted Goto’s challenge. After Goto left, Takeshita finished up his speech talking about him being “The Alpha” and his goal as the new champion.
This was Takeshita’s first ever IWGP World Heavyweight Championship victory in his NJPW career.
