Ortiz Says He Has Around One Year Left on His AEW Contract

As noted before, Ortiz has been out of action for AEW since January of 2024 due to a torn pectoral injury and surgery. Ortiz made his in-ring return for the indies this past March but has yet to make an in-ring return to AEW.

A recent episode of the Wombreezy podcast featured Ortiz as the guest. One of the topics discussed included Ortiz’s thoughts about his current contract status with AEW and revealed that he has around one year left on his contract. Ortiz also revealed that he has been working as a coach and producer during his time away from the ring in AEW.

“As of right now, I have about a year left with the company. Give or take on this current contract. I would love to stay there. I love working at AEW. I’ve been coaching and doing producing, which is learning a different skill and will give you longevity. It’s also making me be a better wrestler because I’m helping people call matches and I’m analyzing it from a different lens. I’m really enjoying that. It’s something I wanted to do anyway, and now I’m getting the opportunity to do it there. Even if I stay on purely to do coaching and producing, and I can still wrestle, I’m happy. If they keep me, I would stay.”

Ortiz has been signed with AEW since the company’s founding in 2019 and was among those who had competed in the first ever AEW event at Double or Nothin 2019.
