John Cena Comments on His Final WWE Date “Won’t Just Be A Show About Me”

As noted before, John Cena’s final match for his wrestling career will be taking place at WWE’s Saturday Night’s Main Event show on December 13th in Washington, D.C.

A recent episode of the ESPN First Take show featured Cena as the guest, One of the topics discussed included Cena’s thoughts about WWE’s The Last Time Is Now tournament to determine the final opponent for his in-ring career.

“Everyone is like, ‘Who does John Cena want to face?’ And the way I got my start in WWE was through random opportunity. I got my first match because The Undertaker was sick, so I love the theory of opportunity. And I believe in the meritocracy of the WWE. So I don’t want to face anyone, I don’t want to handpick anyone. I want people to have to get a chance to showcase their skills and earn the right for opportunity. So we’re doing this with ‘The [Last] Time is Now’ tournament, where it’s a bunch of the top superstars and some random entrants — even some against-all-odds opponents have a chance to see if they can make it to get a chance to see if they can retire John Cena, which is a really special thing.”

Cena also gave his thoughts about his upcoming retirement match show for his wrestling career and how he doesn’t want the show to be just about him.

“And on the actual retirement night, December 13 in [Washington] D.C., it isn’t just a show about me. I’m using the time that eyeballs are on the show to give some of the NXT Superstars a showcase. I basically want this tour to be about opportunity for the future and paving the way for the future, because that’s what the class before me did for me.”

Gunther Comments on His Upcoming WWE Return at Nov. 17th WWE RAW Show

As noted before, Gunther has been absent from WWE since this past August’s SummerSlam 2025 due to a nose surgery. Gunther is currently scheduled to make his in-ring return at tonight’s WWE RAW show at Madison Square Garden in New York City, New York.

Gunther reflected earlier today on Instagram about his upcoming WWE return and match against Je’Von Evans in the First Round of The Last Time Is Now tournament.

“The Ring General is back on duty to raise the quality in WWE. I’ve had a bit of a break, fixed my nose and now I’m here in the beautiful Switzerland at the airport in Zurich, I’m about to head to New York City. There couldn’t be better timing to come back and participate in the tournament that will determine John Cena’s final opponent at the Madison Square Garden in one of my absolute favorite arenas. I’m looking forward to it, I’m back again.”

Shayna Baszler Comments on Her Time in NXT During Black & Gold Era Being Highlight of Her WWE Career

Catch Club held a recent interview with former WWE talent Shayna Baszler. One of the topics discussed included Baszler’s thoughts about her time in NXT during the Black & Gold era being the highlight of her career in WWE.

“Oh man. Obviously, Black and Gold. NXT holds a special place in everyone’s heart. That was a part of that, and it’s not even you know, I had a long time as champion there. It’s not even that, it’s just that it was such a special- We created magic. So I think for sure, like the Black and gold era is like a highlight of my life.”

Baszler also gave her thoughts about how the original plans for her Women’s Elimination Chamber victory at Elimination Chamber 2022 would have been something that would have been hated by fans.

“Well, there was a little to do about it because I think the initial pitch was to like Brock Lesnar my way through, where I think they wanted me in first and then I just go (eliminate) one by one and it’s like well, that’s not the fans are going to hate that. So we kind of came up with the way that we did it to kind of give a little bit of both. They get to see a little bit of a match and then I can show it one by one on the last few. So yeah, that’s kind of how it worked out.”
