Kenny Omega Comments on Not Wanting People to Worry About His Health & Best Case Retirement Scenario
SHAK Wrestling held a recent interview with Kenny Omega. One of the topics discussed included Omega’s thoughts about him not wanting people to worry about his health.
“I’ve got to go out there and I’ve got to give my best. And not only do I have to do that but I’m trying to do that without making it very clearly obvious that there are bad days and good days for Kenny Omega.
I don’t want people to have to worry about me, and I want to be able to do a performance that I can be proud of and that my opponent can benefit from without people having to worry and without even further endangering myself on top of that.”
Omega also gave his thoughts about him still learning the limits of his body almost a full year since his return from diverticulitis.
“Some days, I might feel like I have the answer and some days I don’t. And I haven’t completely pieced together everything, but I’m getting there and it’s getting closer. I’m feeling more and more confident as days go by.
It’s a sickness and I could not have prepared myself for it. I never saw it coming. I’ve always been trying to strive for the best physical health that I could possibly be in. I don’t miss my vitamins. I make sure to take all my vitamins and supplementation to keep myself healthy. Not to get big, not to look like a bodybuilder (but) to keep myself healthy and to keep myself in a state where I can perform at a high level. So for that to just happen, that’s just probably bad luck.”
Omega also gave his thoughts about his ideal scenario for his retirement from wrestling
“I would like to be in a situation where I left the ring not having any regrets and not feeling embarrassed or that I tarnished my own reputation. I would like to leave when I have some semblance of athleticism left in my body. I don’t want to completely work until the wheels fall off and that the person who leaves wrestling is one that barely resembles the Kenny Omega of old. I’ve been thinking a lot about when that time would be. One important thing for me, too, is that when I finally do leave, whenever that may be, this might sound odd, but I don’t want people to be sad. In fact, the best case scenario for me would be that they don’t realize I’m gone at all. I would love to have the peace of mind that the company has built enough stars so that their star is shining bright enough to distract from me stepping away from the scene. That would make me the happiest.”

FTR Comments on Potential Future AEW Training Center
As noted before, AEW had been considering plans at one point to potentially launch an official training center for the company in Asheville, North Carolina.
A recent episode of the Battleground Podcast featured FTR’s Cash Wheeler and Dax Harwood as the guests. One of the topics discussed included FTR’s thoughts about their interest in working as coaches for a potential future AEW training center.
Dax Harwood – “Training is something that I’m very, very, very interested in — something that I love doing. We did have a few guys and girls come to Asheville from AEW. They were doing very well. We were working with Sting’s son as well. You know, it is something that is an itch that training will scratch for me. And I hope to one day be able to do that. If it’s with AEW, that would be even better. So we’ll see.”
Cash Wheeler – “Right now, honestly, especially for us, most weeks we do Dynamite and Collision. That’s four days on the road or so given at that point. And then you count pay-per-views or international tours. Like, we got Newark this week for Full Gear and then we got Cardiff and everything coming up in December. So there’s no set schedule for us ever, and it’s a lot of weeks where it’s up in the air where you’re just not home enough at all. So it might be easier for us once we’re a little more part-time also.”
