AEW Full Gear 2025 Post-Show Media Scrum: Mark Briscoe on His TNT Title Win, Ricochet on His Plans for AEW National Title Reign, WBD Sale Rumors & AEW Future, Kyle O’Reilly Unlikely To Be Medically Cleared for 2025 Continental Classic, Tony Khan on Change In His Vibes Since Full Gear 2024

AEW held a media scrum following Saturday’s Full Gear 2025 event at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.

Some of the notable highlights included:

  • During his portion of the media scrum, new AEW TNT Champion Mark Briscoe gave his thoughts about his TNT title victory over Kyle Fletcher. Briscoe stated ““I mean, it’s amazing. I never necessarily thought that nights like tonight would happen. I’m a tag team wrestler. I’ve always been a tag team wrestler. So it’s been three years now that I’ve put that behind me, and so… really amazing. I wanna thank Tony (Khan), I wanna thank family, thank God and thank all y’all, all the fans, everybody who supports… I can’t really quite find the words but, it feel pretty good, feel pretty good.
  • On the topic of his journey from not being able to compete on TNT to becoming the TNT Champion, Briscoe stated “It really is a crazy story where, allegedly, the reason that we couldn’t be here was a TNT executive…” AEW CEO Tony Khan responded stating “Who is long gone. Long departed.” Briscoe continued stating “Ever since I’ve been here, every single individual from Turner, TNT, TBS, that I’ve met, has been amazing. It’s crazy because so many years ago, we didn’t know there was a point where the trajectory of the Briscoe brothers was all up. Some unfortunate comments were made by my bigheaded brother [laughs]. It’s one of those things where you live and you learn. We’re so grateful that people have seen and acknowledged that we did learn from our mistakes. The full circle aspect of it is mind-blowing. It’s hard to put into words.
  • Briscoe also gave his thoughts about how he had considered quitting wrestling after his brother Jay’s death. Briscoe stated “When my brother passed, the first thing that popped in my head was I’m never going to be able to wrestle again. I don’t ever want to wrestle again. And it was a very short amount of time and I was like, ‘What are you talking about? No, that’s not how we do this. We’re not quitting, we aint quitters.’ And of course I didn’t. I felt him. He was like keep on keeping on brother, make us proud. And tonight is quite a validation. I just appreciate y’all so much.
  • During his portion of the media scrum, Big Boom AJ praised AEW and AEW CEO Tony Khan for giving him the opportunities to wrestle in their company and how he would proudly carry the AEW flag for the company.
  • On the topic of the potential of a future wrestling career for his son Big Justice, AJ stated that this is something he would be very interested and supportive if that is what his son wants to do.
  • During his portion of the media scrum, new AEW National Champion Ricochet came out with The Gates of Agony (Toa Liona & Bishop Kaun). On the topic of his AEW National title victory, Ricochet stated “It feels great but again, it feels very familiar. And this is honestly just the beginning, guys. I hope you know this. This is just one of many because I’ve got a couple sharks here (Bishop Kaun & Toa Liona) who smell blood in the water and now are very hungry. So, everybody in the entire company better watch out because we’re eyeing you. Even Kris Statlander, you better watch your back because I might come for that one next.
  • On the topic of his plans for his approach for his AEW National Championship reign, Ricochet stated “Sorry brother, you’re going to have to really earn your spot. I already have a criteria in my head of things you have to achieve before you even get close to this. And as far as going outwards and going to the CMLLs, and the Indies, and the New Japans. Listen guys, I was King of the Indies when the Indies were the hottest they’ve ever been. I was running it. So whatever competition they’ve got going on nowadays is just going to be easy money for me. I love charity work, it’ll be something that I do for the good of the community.
  • During her portion of the media scrum, AEW Women’s World Champion Kris Statlander talked about getting her first ever singles victory over AEW TBS Champion Mercedes Mone and her cementing her status as the top women’s champion in AEW.
  • During his portion of the media scrum, AEW CEO Tony Khan gave his thoughts about the recent reports about Warner Bros Discovery’s sale process and rumors and how he is not worried about it affecting the future of AEW. Khan stated “I’m not worried at all. I feel really good. We have a great partnership with Warner Brothers Discovery and are blessed to be on TBS, TNT, and now having the show stream on Max. No, that doesn’t concern me at all. I’m very, very, very, very, very, optimistic about the future of AEW and where everything is going.
  • On the topic of this year’s Continental Classic Tournament, Khan stated that he does not expect Kyle O’Reilly to be medically cleared to compete in this year’s tournament following the actions of Jon Moxley after their No Holds Barred match on the show.
  • On the topic of his scouting approach for indies wrestlers for AEW, Khan stated “Yeah I do. Sometimes I go to independent wrestling. I look for wrestlers that the fans connect with, and it’s all different things. Just like in football, football players are built different. You’re looking for different players that play different roles. Not every player is the same height and speed and skillset. And, there are things that you look for in some players versus other players and you look for some people who can come and play a role in your organization. When you’re looking you say ‘Oh I think this person could do this and maybe they could grow into a role’ and same thing when you’re scouting a football player. Whether it’s football or wrestling, people can over perform or under perform those expectations but they are just estimations and ideas that you have. In the end, I go out and I look for people that I think could connect with the fans and people that could be a good fit for AEW. And especially people who would be good in our locker room and be a good part of our company but also people that are going to be great wrestlers for us. And it doesn’t necessarily in every case have to be right away, sometimes it can be, but it could be somebody for the future.
  • On the topic of securing a Red Dead Redemption 2 music track for Hangan Adam Page’s special entrance at Full Gear 2025, Khan stated “I was really glad we got that license done. That was a race against time. Great work, guys. Got it done. Great to the team. Thanks, guys, and very grateful.” Khan also stated that similar to past usages of outside songs, he secured the rights in perpetuity so that it does not need to be edited out of future viewings.
  • On the topic of the change of how he felt around the time of Full Gear 2024 in comparison to how he feels present day, Khan stated “One year ago, sitting in this chair today, I felt — I don’t feel now — one year ago and today, it’s 180 degrees the other way. Felt, one year ago, embattled. I feel the opposite. Doing the 10,000 fans and having the Full Gear show felt like the beginning of a turnaround and that’s really what everybody — the vibe — the Full Gear last year, was like, ‘This feels like the beginning of a big turnaround for us,’ and you look at one year later and it feels like we’re on such a great run this year… But I felt like one year ago, that was a beginning of a great run of things that now, like you said, full circle it feels like. A total opposite feeling where it feels like, a year ago, it felt like the beginning of a turnaround and now it feels like just flow momentum and what a great year we’re having…
  • On the topic of the future of AEW’s partnership with action figure manufacturer Jazzwares, Khan stated that he could not speak about the exact duration remaining on their deal with Jazzwares but praised the relationship between both companies.
