Fightful held a recent interview with Ash By Elegance. One of the topics discussed included Ash’s thoughts about her developing her “Elegance” character in TNA Wrestling and the comparisons by others with Toni Storm’s “Timeless” character in AEW.
“At the start, it was very difficult because it takes time for anything. So long story short, it was hard to get people to sink their teeth in because they saw me as Dana Brooke and they saw me as the underdog and they were like, ‘Well, what can she do now?’ I knew from the moment had to reinvent myself. I really needed to strip away everything and not have people remember me as who I was before. Which some wrestlers come from WWE and keep going on with their gimmick in the indie scene or trying like reinvent it a little bit. I was like, ‘Nope, I need to strip it. Dana Brooke is dead. She’s gone.’ So I really needed to reinvent myself. Tommy and I spoke so many times. I really had to go and dig into my roots and find really who I was as far as the elegant part of things. I like fashion. I like nice things. I have diamonds, jewelry. But I needed to go far from myself and really channel in somebody that is so self- centered and we all know self-centered people and I just wanted people to hate me because when they see me they think of this person that they truly genuinely hate. You don’t have to watch TNA for five weeks to understand the story. You know exactly when I come out and my personal concierge comes out, if you’ve never seen us before you don’t like me and that was perfect. But within the first week I’m getting compared to Toni Storm. I’m like guys, ‘I haven’t said one word. I have not said one word on the mic. You see me walking out of a car with my heels all the way up and my hair curled and you’re comparing me to Toni Storm. How? How?’ You haven’t seen me work. You haven’t seen me cut a promo, nothing like that and you’re comparing me already. So I knew it was going to be an uphill battle, but I really feel like I hit a home run and now I’m going on the search for Mr. Elegance.”
