Tony Khan Reveals AEW Dynamite’s First Episode Was Originally Set for Madison Square Garden

During Saturday’s AEW Dynamite On 34th Street 2025 tapings at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City, New York, AEW CEO Tony Khan came out and gave a speech to the crowd.

Khan revealed that the original plans for the debut episode of AEW Dynamite was for it to take place at Madison Square Garden. Khan stated that MSG had called him and offered a date for an AEW show only to later call back telling him that they were no longer interested due to “it would really upset somebody.” This led to the crowd responding chanting “F*ck the Fed” in reference to WWE.

“That’s an interesting idea. You know, for a long time, I’ll be honest. They didn’t want me there, you know that? Because the first episode of Dynamite was originally going to be there. And they called me and offered me the date. They said, ‘Would you like to do the first episode of Dynamite here?’ The people who called me don’t work there anymore; it was over six years ago.

I said, ‘Yeah, I really would. It would be great.’ And they called me a couple of months later, and they said, ‘We don’t want you anymore. We don’t want you to do the first Dynamite here.’ Because it would really upset somebody.”

Jungle Jack Perry Ankle Injury Update

As noted before, Jungle Jack Perry suffered an ankle injury during Continental Classic Gold League match against Kazuchika Okada at the December 10th AEW Dynamite Winter Is Coming 2025 show. Despite the injury, Perry was able to finish the match and also competed in a Continental Classic Gold League match against “Speedball” Mike Bailey at this past week’s AEW Collision Holiday Bash 2205 show.

Perry provided an update on Saturday on Twitter about the current status of his ankle injury.

“My ankle feels like sh*t, my mouth tastes like Speedball’s toes. But all in all, I’m pretty damn happy because I am finally on the board in the Continental Classic.

That was three points right there, I got two more matches: PAC and Kyle Fletcher, and these guys are animals, but one way or another, I think I might just find a way to take this whole thing home.”

MJF Comments on “Being A Top Name Isn’t Enough, I Need To Go Down As The Greatest Of All Time”

Fightful held a recent interview with MJF. One of the topics discussed included MJF’s thoughts about his recent losses to Mark Briscoe in AEW and Mistico in CMLL.

“The guys that I looked up to when I got into this profession were true traveling champions and their schedules were just as heinous. I think, dare I say, I feel like I put out a better performance in a under 24 hour span in two different matches than anyone else in the history of the business. I’m willing to put my name on that between the Mistico match and the Mark Briscoe match. Am I happy about the results? No.

But while I was filming Violent Night 2, which will be coming out in December of next year, I had a lot of time to think and a lot of time to reassess. This guy is a lot different from this guy. It’s kind of a matter of me figuring out the amalgamation of what it’s gonna take for me to get back to the tippy of the top of the mountain in not just All Elite Wrestling, but professional wrestling.”

MJF also gave his thoughts about his main goal for his wrestling career is wanting his legacy to be known as both a generational talent and the greatest of all time.

“Now, when people think about professional wrestling in 2025, the names that come up, am I one of them? Yeah, no fucking shit. But that’s not enough for me. I need to go down as the greatest of all time. I need to go down as a generational talent, as a guy who led my generation for years to come. AEW had me in my 20s. They’re about to have me in my 30s. Have I accomplished more than anybody has in that period of time? Probably. But I’m not satiated. That was my biggest thing that I realized after the Mark Briscoe match. I just was not satiated. It’s not okay to just have a good outing. I need to win.”
