The second season of the WWE: Unreal docuseries was released earlier today on Netflix.
One of the topics in the fourth episode involved WWE’s original plans for this past August’s SummerSlam 2025 event in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
During the episode, a whiteboard was shown in WWE’s writers’ room that listed several potential matches that WWE’s creative team was considering for plans for the card of SummerSlam at the time.
Of the matches listed, only two ended up taking place at the event, which were Cody Rhodes vs. John Cena (c) for the Undisputed WWE Championship and CM Punk vs. Gunther (c) for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
WWE’s original plans for SummerSlam 2025’s card:
- Undisputed WWE Championship: John Cena vs. Cody Rhodes
- World Heavyweight Championship match: CM Punk vs. Gunther
- Roman Reigns vs. Bron Breakker
- Sami Zayn vs. Seth Rollins (w/ Bronson Reed)
- Women’s World Championship match: IYO SKY vs. Naomi
- Rhea Ripley vs. Asuka
- Jey Uso vs. Rusev
- Finn Balor (The Demon) vs. Dominik Mysterio
- Trish Stratus vs. TBD
- Women’s Intercontinental Championship match: Bayley vs. Becky Lynch
- WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship match: The Bella Twins vs. Liv Morgan & Raquel Rodriguez
