Orange Cassidy on Being Labeled A Comedy Wrestler, Origin of His Hands In The Pockets Spot for His Matches, Matt Sydal Came Up with Idea for His New Sideways Head Viral Shirt, & More

TMZ Sports held a recent interview with Orange Cassidy. One of the topics discussed included Cassidy’s thoughts about people labeling him as a comedy wrestler and how he tries to incorporate as much of every style of pro wrestling that he can into his matches.

“When people refer to me as a comedy wrestler, I’m doing comedy wrestling. I don’t really disagree because that is an element I would like to use. I was fortunate enough to be trained around and wrestled with a lot of different people with a lot of different styles. And I think to me that is where I find my most success is that I will try to incorporate as much of every style of professional wrestling that I can into my matches.

It’s a risk sometimes, you know. “You don’t know if it’s going to work or not, but you have to try, and I don’t care, so I’ll just try. And I keep the stuff that works and ditch the stuff that doesn’t.”

Cassidy also gave his thoughts about the origin of the hands in the pockets spot he does during his matches.

“I thought about…oh, this is working, great! You know, it’s one of those things. I’ve spent a lot of time in professional wrestling, like over a decade it took me to figure out what I needed to do to connect with people and stuff,” he said. “And you never know what’s going to work and you just got to try to just keep at it and be persistent. It’s one of those things where I’m very grateful I had the opportunity to try this stuff out, like I had a lot of time. I had nothing to lose. So I was just trying anything.

That is like a thing I never thought would happen where people would be like, oh yeah, you got to put those hands in your pockets,” he continued. “But that to me is what is a great professional wrestler. Something that stands out that people can identify with.”

Cassidy also gave his thoughts about Matt Sydal being the person who came up with the idea for his new sideways head shirt that quickly became viral.

“No. I will be very honest with you, it was Matt Sydal. He brought it to me. Matt Sydal, he’s a real one. I’m gonna be sending him a check for the rest of his life.”

Cassidy also gave his thoughts about working with The Rizzler in AEW.

“The Rizzler is the best. Him and I are boys. We talk about stuff like what he eats on airplanes and his favorite video games and stuff that he’s playing. He’s cool.”

Cassidy also gave his thoughts about how his and The Conglomeration going frozen in place during “Blackheart” Lio Rush’s entrance on the June 3rd episode of AEW Dynamite was something that he thought of as an idea to do on the spot.

“I don’t know if it’s true or not, I just did it. I think I maybe thought of Jurassic Park or something. I was like — that sounds like the first, like that’s your go-to. Let’s say you’re ghost-hunting. Does anybody ghost hunt? I don’t know. But if you see a ghost, you freeze because if I don’t move — it was just my first gut instinct, it was to not move. I don’t even know if he can see me if we don’t move but so far so good, I guess.”

Cassidy also gave his thoughts about if he is afraid of Rush’s new creepy lunatic persona in AEW.

“Yes, I think we all should be. I’ve never seen this before. He just shows up whenever. The problem is I pride myself on being able to identify and really sus out people I think. I can’t read anything on this person, I’ll say.”
