Kyle Fletcher on Him Feeling He Is “Not A Finished Product” in Wrestling & Him Not Being Opposed To Idea of Working with Skye Blue As An On-Screen Couple in AEW

The Knockturnal held a recent interview with AEW International Champion Kyle Fletcher. One of the topics discussed included Fletcher’s thoughts about him feeling that he is not a “finished product” in terms of his growth and evolution as a star in the wrestling business.

“I’m not a finished product, and I don’t think I ever want to be a finished product. I want to constantly be evolving with the business.”

Fletcher also gave his thoughts about his decision to shave his head when he started his heel run in AEW.

“It was it was something that wasn’t necessarily done overnight. I didn’t come in on that day with like a fully fleshed out character, and I didn’t go, ‘This is who I am. this is who the new Kyle Fletcher is.’ I knew what the starting point was. I knew that I wanted to get rid of my hair. I wanted to have like a clean slate. I wanted to start from scratch.

And then from there, it really was just building it from the ground up. I think one of the things I love about pro wrestling is it’s constantly evolving and constantly changing. And I think as a character, you also have to do that. I don’t think you can come in and be married to ‘this is what I am, this is who I am, I’m sticking with this no matter what,’ because, you know, might not work. You have literally a live audience there giving you feedback and if something’s not working, you got to switch it up. You got to find something else.

So when I came in, I did the head shave, it really did feel like a clean slate. So after that, from that point onwards, I was trying stuff out. I was trying new gear. I was trying new ways of speaking, new whatever, whatever look it was. So I was trying things out and it took a while and some things didn’t stick and some things did. And then I think over time you kind of start, ‘okay, that worked. I’ll keep that. Okay, that worked. I’ll keep that. Okay, here’s this other idea. Let me try and implement that. Oh my god, everyone loved that.’ And I think it is still evolving and still changing, which I think is the beautiful part of it.”

Fletcher also gave his thoughts about if fans can expect any Bret Hart-level controversy for his match against Bandido for the AEW International title at this Sunday’s AEW Redemption event in Montreal.

“I think the most likely controversy to come out of my match is Bandido being decapitated or severely injured to the point where he goes home and cries to his mother.”

In a separate recent interview with TV Insider, Fletcher gave his thoughts about his current relationship with AEW talent Skye Blue and when they plan to take their relationship to the next level and if he had thought about marrying Blue.

“Oh, believe me, I’ve been hearing all about it. You know, I don’t want to rush anything. I think we’re both very career focused right now. We’re very focused on developing ourselves as individuals, as human beings, as adults. We’re 26 and 27. We’re still finding our footing in the world. So yeah, we’re just not trying to rush it, and right now, our life is…really, really awesome. It doesn’t feel like there’s a need to rush it, but it will be happening pretty soon, I’m sure.”

Fletcher also gave his thoughts about his interest in working with Blue as an on-screen couple in the future in AEW.

“For me, it was never something that I wanted to push for. We’re a couple behind the scenes, but I don’t think that needs to bleed over to onscreen, but I’m definitely not opposed to it. I think at the right time, with the right story, it could absolutely work. We have that real-life chemistry, which I think in pro wrestling is very important a lot of the time. You can tell when people have this natural chemistry onscreen. I think it could definitely work if the timing’s right, and I’m definitely open to it. Nothing has been pitched to me or said to me about it. Let the universe do what it will with that.”
